I picked up another RY10. Maybe I have been seduced by one particularly good barrel, but for now I'm going to buy it whenever I see it for a fair price. Got a few at $46 now

Well done!! And all the better that it is being enjoyed as intended vs. sold to the highest bidder. This exceeds a self imposed price ceiling so I won't pursue one but it seems that it is a top level pour and justified in the current market. Very glad for you that you were able to get it.

Nice grab! When I got that flyer i was thinking how much I'd like to get the GTS then the Bottle you got. I had to work this morning, so I was unable to get there. Which location did you go to and how early did you get there?

The WLW was $109+tax. The GTS was $119+tax.

Actually got both since daughter went and got a GTS, too. She just won't let me have it yet. My wife went as well but didn't get picked. I went to the Manchester one. I got there around 6 or a little after. You could have gotten there at 7:30 and still had a chance. They gave out tickets until they reached 250 or 7:30. They never got to 250. Then they drew numbers from the 250 and as your number was drawn you got to go in and purchase from what was left. I was #8 drawn. My daughter was #21. The Brentwood store had a few more bottles but they had more than 250 show up. I have to say they ran the whole thing very well and it went very smooth. They even had coffee and donuts for everyone.

nice to see it done like that. More stores should follow suit. Speaking of the ones that sit it on the shelf at secondary prices of course

Sounds like a great experience and especially good for you!  I agree with others.  This sounds like great way to handle availability to allocated bottles.  From your picture it looks like they had two bottles each of WLW and GTS and you ended up with one of each. Happy Fathers Day, my friend!

They actually had 3 WLW. The guy before me picked one as well. The workers seemed very surprised we weren't selecting the VW 12 or 10.  They kept calling out that.."we are down to the 12 and 10 year now. The 23, 20, and 15 are gone."  I feel a LITTLE guilty about having my daughter there too but we played by the rules. She drove seperately even and paid for it herself. It was my request she go however.  She is driving me crazy, though, cause she won't even let me LOOK at it. Lol

Do you know why your TW did it this way instead of offering these through the Total Discovery program? Every other TW I know of (which is granted not a lot) offer these to Grand Reserve members via email.

All the Missouri TW stores participated. They don't have the Total Discovery/Grand Reserve program in Missouri. Something about it makes it illegal here. I'm not sure of the details. Something about tying rewards/coupons to previous purchases. When I spoke to the manager last week he said they are actively lobbying to have it changed. I'm glad it is the way it is. Keeps the people that buy thousands of dollars of booze for their corporate events from snapping everything up. I'd never have a chance then.

Went for a drive to Oregon on Wed. and came back with 3 Weller 12 yr and 2 OWA's...very difficult to find any in Idaho.

Woodford Reserve Double Oak. I have been wanting to try this one since I have heard some good things about it   Quonset the back it says it's  rebarreled in "heavily toasted, lightly charred" barrels.  I guess I don't understand that. What's the difference between toasting and charring?

Purchased these 3 yesterday.  Went in looking for the Weller Antique specifically and walked out with a couple of buddies for the Weller Antique so he wouldn't get lonely on the car ride home.

The other 2 are almost impossible to find in the last 3 years (in fact, that was the first bottle of Weller 12 I have seen since 2014).  I just hit the store at the right time and asked the owner if he had received any ETL lately.  He said that he did and had 1 that was not spoken for that he would sell to me.  He went back to the office to get the ETL and came back with the Weller 12 and asked if I wanted it too.  Easy choice for me.  Definately got lucky and hit the right store at the right time.

 speculating that its probably similar to making toast..... golden brown on low heat, vs. burning the hell outta it on high.

Woodford tends to be somewhat cryptic about their products and processes, so, (shrug).

 

Regardless of definitions, the double oaked Woodford has always been much more enjoyable to me that the standard offering.

Many of the bottles I have tasted, have a wonderful complex chocolate and cherry thing going on.  It's a great dessert pour!

Daughter gave me my early father's day present since we will be in Florida next weekend on vacation and George can't fly. She enjoyed tormenting me for a day and a half. Had to get a picture of the twins together.
