Poured a SAOS 11yr local pick - really low proof (93.4).  Is the lowest proof "cask strength" bottle I think I own, and thought that alone would make it really unique.  Might have had too high of expectations.  Its a solid bourbon - and actually drinks like it might be a touch lower proof, but not extraordinary or otherwise remarkable.  First world whiskey geek problems :)

Getting my wheaties in tonight before me and the wife head out for some pub food and to see Dunkirk.

I really liked my last bottle of RY10 but this one is a bit off hoping it's a one off as I stocked up on these. WA107 is my fav tonight.

Had some Jack black last night while waiting for Mexican food.

I don't remember the banana smell I get with OF. They must being using the same yeast as OF.

This isn't a bad thing I really like the nose on OF makes me tempted to try JD barrel proof.

Just had some ETL before meeting some friends out for dinner.  Even poured one for the wife, who enjoyed it.

Hope you enjoy Dunkirk!  Also moved on to wheaters - starting with some ORVW 10yr 107, and following that up with some SB Blend (60/40, heavier on the OWA).  Both really shining!

Opened another Binny's KCSB that I picked up recently, Barrel #4782.  This is one of the more oak heavy KCSBs I have had in a while.   A little oakier than I like but I am certain I will find a way to enjoy it.  :D

It is 12 years and 6 months old.  Generally, I find I like KCSB in the 9 to 11 year range.

I'm an unapologetic Maker's fan, and even I tend to take it for granted.  Because it just simply delivers exactly what its supposed to.  But...The MMCS is a different animal, altogether.  Huge whiskey with layers of caramel, leather, and a downright special hint of a dried flower and grass note that really tingles.  One of the signatures of regular Maker's is its soft finish.  A soft finish by design, I'll add.  The CS, despite its 110+ proof is similar that there is no punch to the throat, but the oak brings a depth here.  This is a whiskey that I don't give as much attention to as it deserves, and delivers more than I would expect.  Shame on me, as this is seriously very good whiskey, particularly considering its price point.

Off-topic, I went back today and re-tried ECNAS and ECBP B517.  Not doing it for me.  I like EWB.  These bottles will probably linger on the shelf for a while.

I've only I've ever had one bottle of MMCS. To me it was very one-dimensional with sweet, sweet, and more sweet. I didn't really get anything else from it except some alcohol burn. Maybe I shoukd revisit it

Send some of that ORVW10 this way! I'm sold I intend to do a 60/40 Weller blend and no a blind SBS with WSR, WA107 and W12.

Dunkirk was great, I haven't been to the movies in years but this was fantastic, sound effects and music was spot on. I don't remember the last time I was so engrossed in a movie.

Opened a new bottle of KCSB SP and 1792 FP.

I had a couple pours of each and a amazing pour from another store pick of KCSB

i bought a couple months ago. The new KCSB SP that I opened tonight wasn't as thick and flavorful and sweet but very very good. I might have to go back and get a few bottles for ze bunker.

Opened my mini of Gentleman Jack. A tiny bit of marzipan and whole lot of cheap alcohol burn at only 80 proof. Not enjoying this one at all.

Couple of fingers of a new KCSB SP tonight - 13 year old - just getting to know it. So far what I can tell is I like it.

Out to dinner with friends earlier tonight at a nice steakhouse.  Had an Old Fashioned with baby Saz rye to kick the evening off while waiting at the bar for the other couple to arrive.  A bottle of Malbac for dinner, then off to another place for after dinner drinks.  They happened to have some BTAC so I went with the WLW which is always a treat.

Back home for a couple of small pours before bed. I'm going with Bookers batch 2014-06 and Baker's just to compare SBS.

Now that's a great night.

For some partial symmetry, I just finished a Baker's and am about to grab some older Booker's

You really should try it. To me it is probably the most impressive new product from a major US distiller in the last five years.

I wish I liked it, I had tried the EC12 in the past and it was ok, not great.  I bought a couple of EC12 back label before they disappeared also.  Oh well, something to share on tasting nights.

The wife and I ended up going to a pretty good (affordable) whiskey bar after we had dinner with friends.  I was able to try several bourbons and whiskies I have never had before.  My favorite of the night was the Rock Hill Farms, but I also liked the Barterhouse.  Have had a couple of the Orphan Barrel releases and have never been overly impressed, but I did like Barterhouse.

Here is how I would rank the ones I tried last night:

1-Rock Hill Farms

2-Orphan Barrel Barterhouse

3-Elijah Craig 18

4-Parker's Heritage 13 YO Wheat Whisky (not actually a bourbon, but first time trying it)

5-Orphan Barrel Forged Oak (the only one I just did not like at all and will never order again)

Got a smoker a week or two ago, firing it up for its first smoke today. Enjoying a small pour of GTS on the patio and enjoying the smells of slow cooking meat (or chicken in this case).
