My modest collection and display. The center clock belonged to my dad, it was his father's. The portrait is of my great-grandfather, a Civil War veteran. The center personalized decanter was a father's day present from my family ... my wife is first generation Polish-American, and they had the crystal decanter & glasess set made for me in the old-country.

Love the set up, it looks great. I really like the family history wrapped into your bar area as well.

Just got an antique general store display case for my bar brought into my basement. I've cleaned it up and setup my whiskey in it here:

Decided to crack open a bottle of A H Hirsch with the gold foil to celebrate.

What an outstanding set-up! I would be proud to have that in my home. Very nice indeed!

Man - I'm jealous of the actual bars (not to mention many of the collections!) So this post is more of a sympathy post

This is a fairly crowded pic/stash (in the bottom of a hutch). Some of the hidden items in the bottom include 2010 George T Stagg, 2010 William Larue Weller, 2011 Thomas H Handy, 2011 Sazerac Rye 18 yr, Elijah Craig SB 18, Van Winkle 12 yr Lot B, Pappy 20 yr, Willett 4 yo Rye, Eagle Rare (10 yr), Laphroaig Cask Strength (and standard 10 yr), Ardbeg 10 yr, Crown Royal Cask 16, Old Rip Van Winkle 10 yrs (90 and 107 proof), Johnny Drum Private Stock, Southern Corn Whiskey, and 1792 Ridgemont Reserve. Not pictured is a 2007 Old Forrester Birthday Bourbon.

The Charred Oak is the latest addition (and Restaurant Man was right - FR SB is far better for $30; I have one of those, and just couldn't resist not trying the Charred Oak). I'll post a tasting on that later, but it won't be in my stash for long (and won't be replaced).

That the fun of the hobby. Trying all the stuff thats out there. Only way to figure out what you like is to find some things that don't stack up. One of the great resources of this board is what people like and don't like and why. The good news is that everyone here agrees on exactly what the good bourbons are and which ones to avoid. (not) Its written in code though, really really small on the tip of a montblanc and a rolex buried in one of these threads

I've learned to take professional tasting notes and "scores" with a grain of salt, but you're right - if you can read the various reasons someone likes or dislikes something, and have some baseline to judge if their tastes are similar, you can get some indication. I've found that Jason Pyle (http://sourmashmanifesto.com) has fairly similar tastes, but in a couple of instances he was more pleased with a dram than I was - and vice versa.

Definitely glad to have found this board! Now my wife doesn't have to listen to me yack about bourbon

Just completed my home bar build and received my lighted shelf. Populated both steps with all San Fran 2011 & 2012 Gold or Double Gold medal winners. Reserved the top right for the Pappy collection. I don't have a lot of depth (multiples), but I've been at this for just a year. My goal for the rest of the year is to locate some very old Rye's.

Nice, but you have to replace that Bacardi and Coke pouring mat with one from Wild Turkey.

That's a very nice setup there.

My bar and my bourbon bunker used to be far more robust. At one point I was running out of room. Ultimately through drinking the good stuff and giving away a lot of the others I wasn't going to drink, this is what it looks like as of today. I do have a few bottles "bunkered" on the bottom that are not in the picture.

And I've saved a few empty bottles of the "good stuff" just as a keepsake.

I concur, I'd recommend a single barrel. It would fit very nicely.

  • 5 weeks later...

Update on mine...I outgrew my space, moved my "bunker" to another cabinet but didn't really like having it split up. Today at Staples, found this guy on sale for $39.99, so I put it together and have the whole collection together again.

Be careful of particle board shelving units and heavy/breakable items.

You may detect a sag in the middle of the shelves and take that as a red flag warning.

Don't you know not to store bourbon on it's side :slappin:

Looks good Dridge! I was almost going to buy this liquor cabinet I saw at Costco. It matches my Le Cache perfectly but my wife vetoed the idea. "Why would you spend $500 on something that holds only 25 bottles? That's lame"

She is always the rational one :(
