What Bourbon Did You Purchase Today (Winter 2017

Not today but yesterday evening......

 

A local liquor store had a charity event. It was a beer, wine and spirits tastings, and of course they had some raffles for a number of "limited" items. Some of the raffles were an instant win if your ticket was drawn. Others were "option to buy" if your ticket was drawn. It was a pretty fun evening. I met Vosgar there, as well as Galvin0791. Three of the guys from our Wednesday night bourbon and cigar group also showed up. Of course we all talked a lot of s**t,  and everyone got to meet Galvin0791. (I'm really glad you could make it Mike) 

 

As for the raffles, we didn't come out too bad. I almost hate to admit it, but me in particular. JerseyDon won four Pappy VanWinkle rocks glasses. John A. won a ps bottle of OWA. I've never before had my ticket drawn at any event where bourbon/le's were involved, but I actually had two of my tickets drawn last night.  FWIW, being the Weller whore that I am, most of my tickets went towards  Weller items. I won the right to purchase a handle of Weller 12, and a Weller package consisting of 750's of Weller SR, Weller Antique, and Weller 12. Weller whore that I am, of course I bought them.  (Even though for some reason the price on the handle of Weller 12 was pretty inflated. ) I'm sorry to say that Vosgar and Galvin0791 didn't win anything. However, the three of us will be getting together the first weekend in April for a little trip, and for some reason I think some nice samples of Joe's 2018 Weller Blend will be shared.

Also got to participate in a barrel selection for KC SiB while I was there.  Not as sexy as going to the distillery, but the 3 samples were offered in cool wood case, with water from the distillery for dilution.  The barrel that was chosen (my favorite by far) was just shy of 14 years.  It came from the barrel at 121.9 proof, so not much dilution needed.  Due at the store in June...   

 

I'd insert a few pics but it's a PITA to downsize to 4 mb.

Yeah, Beam does it first class with the single barrel private selection process for Knob Creek. Buffalo Trace just sends a cardboard box.

Very excited when I saw the local abc store number come up calling.  Store manager was ringing down the vip list to let me know an allocated (In NC) item had come in.  Buffalo Trace.... have to keep the good will going and grabbed that rare and elusive gem...

Wow, that sounds like an awesome time. I wish we had something like that in Michigan. Looks like you scored big. How much was the Inflated handle of W12?

I was able to pick up the C917 a few weeks ago. A delicious bourbon and a great completion to the 2017 releases.

Where in Michigan are you? I live in St Joe, which is in the southwest corner of the state.

The three bottle Weller set was a fairly reasonable $83.00.  The handle of Weller 12 was $79.00.  With my bunker now full of Weller, I foresee another batch of Joe's 2018 Weller Blend in the very near future.

Silver Beach is not far from us at all. What’s the name of the LS you’re referring to? There are a few of them here, but I usually buy my whiskey in Indiana because it’s about 15-20% cheaper. Michigan has higher taxes and a state minimum on pricing. Indiana is a bargain compared to Michigan.

I picked up my first of JB Distiller’s Cut for $18.99.  I haven’t been actively looking for it, but after the first sip I wish I would have grabbed it months ago.  I just tried it sbs with KC9, and I slightly prefer the DC. 

 

I also got a 750ml of 4R yellow label for $11.99 and RR10 for $29. The 4R is the only 80 proof Bourbon I truly enjoy, and the RR10 is my favorite at that price point.

Bottom fishing today.  Visited a store that never has anything "different".  BUT, today it had AAA "10" handles.  I've never had it that I know of.  Also picked up a JB Distiller's Cut as it was the first Time I'd seen it here.  The JBDC is in the trunk.  The AAA is sitting in the utility room next to the Grandpa Weller 4 Grain and the SB Blend.

I picked up a bottle of this the other day. You have me looking forward to cracking it open tomorrow. At only $19.99 in my neck of the woods, I'm optimistic.

Grabbed a couple standard Buffalo Trace. On sale at $20.99 it can’t hardly be beat at that price to my taste buds.

Picked up a couple bottles of ECBP batch A118.  Interesting that they're putting a tag on the top noting the 2017 "Whisky of the Year" award.

A friend brought it up recently, so I'm not sure where he got it. If I could buy it in NY at this price I'd buy it by the case.

Except that the whiskey they rated was batch B517, not A118! So it seems a bit disingenuous (not that most people will likely know the difference). I have yet to try (or even see) A118 yet but each batch tends to be a bit different. Personally I didn't think A117 was as good as B517.
