We buried it upside down a month before the wedding then dug it up immediately after the ceremony. We read that it was good luck and would bring good good weather on the wedding day. I'm not that superstitious, but the weather was absolutely beautiful.

Now i remember your post about burying the Taylor. I'm glad it worked for you and your wife. Again, congrats!

Empty Bottle, bourbon & food & enjoying, rolled into 1 post. 3rd pour & gone...

This store select KC 120 just does it for me. I have to make a return trip...

I just finished a 13 yr old KCSB that was delicious. I have so many PS options of this around me that I can't afford to buy them all and get backups too. Hopefully, the 12 yr I'm opening next will be just as good.

Yesterday was our wedding day, so we dug up the bottle of EHT SmB and shared it with some close friends. I decided to save 4 or so ounces to drink with year old cake on our first anniversary.

Congrates to the both of you. My next pour will be a toast to a long and happy life, together.

I do hold the key to a long marriage that I will share with you.

When we were married, I told my Wife that I do not believe in divorce. I do, however, believe in snipe hunting. To this day, 35 years later, she will not pick up a sack & get in the truck...

I love this! When I was young my uncle took me snipe hunting. I definitely need to take my 9 year old nephew to do that.

Thank you for the well wishes. It's much appreciated.

Ha, when I was a young Scout at summer camp, it was suggested one night that we go snipe hunting. It never actually happened though...I was suspicious of it anyways :)

Okay.  So last night after I retired from 31 years, 4 months and 1 day, a bunch of friends were at the house to help me celebrate.  Started the evening with EC 18 followed by WTMK Decades (both of which I had been saving for this day).  Then in no particular order (basically because I really can't keep them straight) Blanton's, RHF, MM 46 PS, Kentucky Owl 11 y.o. rye, a 4R SiB PS BS, WTKS, KC Rye, RY 10 y.o. SiB and some Little Book.  Had a great time and got up the morning at 4:30 and ran 3.5 miles.

Congratulations on your retirement!

As someone who will be retiring in July, I read with interest and admiration the whiskey lineup for your celebration gathering.  Bravo!  Sounds like it must have been a great time.

(You did lose me, however, with the last sentence in your post.  That is simply contrary to natural law.)

^^^^Congrats C&B!

I danced a bit with Barrell batch 10 last night.  Very good!  Also been working on PS KCSB and WTRRSB.

All are a tough act to follow!

Congrats and welcome to the club.  If you work it right, you will be busier than you've ever been; AND, most of the choices will be things YOU want to do, not what others want you to do.

Today, I opened the first Jefferson's Ocean I have ever tasted OR purchased.  It was Voyage 15, the wheated.  DOn't know the mash bill, but it is supposedly contract distilled by Kentucky Artisan Distillery in Crestwood KY for JO.  Whatever.

For the price, about $85 a 750, I was prepared to be disappointed.  Instead, I was pleasantly surprised.

Nose - some bourbon spice, not rye spice.  It was some cinnamon, some caramel, some vanilla, and some warm brown sugar.  Nothing huge, just nice.  Even at 90 proof, it rivals MM CS ($65 here) in complexity which may not approach slightly above average rye forward bourbon in complexity, BUT it was more fun to chew on than MANY rye forward bourbons I consume.

Palate - a creamy, slightly salted caramel supports a dark fruit (Bing cherry/plum compote with NO added sugar) body.  It is really chewy.  That corn base does carry the wheat essence well.

Finish - medium to long featuring a bit of spice (no rye spice, just a tang) and some mild oak matched with a hint of vanilla.

In other words, when wheated options are MM CS at $65 or David Nicholson 1843 100 proof @ $35, I do think this 90 proofer is competitive.

Who'd have believed that?

Decided to try the last of a CHT SiB bib verses a newly open bottle of CHTSB bib.  In a blind taste my daughter preferred the sb.  I’m partial to the single barrel as it was surly a good one.   I will admit though that the price differential makes the small batch a much better buy.

I agree with you here.  I like both of these bourbons quite a lot.  The single barrel is a bit better to me, somewhat richer in flavor, one of my regular favorites.  But, if you are looking for bang for your buck, the small batch is a fine pour at a clearly lower price.  (Around here, the single barrel is around $58 and the small batch is around $42.)

Oh, I knew I would forget one.  Also had some Jim Beam Distillers Cut.

In terms of what I do next, it's up in the air.  Whatever it is it will be something I want to do, not have to do.

It’s a great whiskey.  Thick, dark, and heavy with great cherry notes.

Haven’t had any Weller 12 in a few weeks, so opened a new bottle from the bunker for Weller Wednesday

Wow that's dark.  I didn't know they did barrel proof picks.

Don't think they knew they were going to do a barrel proof pick either.
