It isn't a sample of everything from my professional life, but it certainly has some of the ones I'm most proud of. On the bottom row I have a number of barrel samples from active projects that I'm currently working on. This is just a drop in the bucket from my collection. Most of the collection takes up a good deal of the whole downstairs of my house, where I have an in-house lab, which includes an array of bourbons, vintage Armagnacs, single malt whiskeys, alambic style brandies, Cognacs, grappas, eau-de-vies, Australian and Japanese whiskeys, rums, plus an assortment of craft spirits, not to mention hundreds of barrel samples. Unfortunately I can't go down the stairs right now to take picks because of my broken ankle, but I will at some point once I'm healed. Cheers, Nancy Hmmmmmmm..........I AM going to be in the Bay Area later this week.

I wish I'd known sooner, @flahute! I'm working with Joe Jr. and Liz Henry from J. Henry & Sons Bourbon this week at my house (since I'm not allowed to travel yet until I get the green light from my Dr.). Otherwise, I'd say come on over! That said, Sept. 1st is always when our "summer" weather officially starts, so it should be gorgeous when you arrive. Cheers, Nancy

When you get bored I’d love to see the rest of the downstairs.

When you get bored I’d love to see the rest of the downstairs. @HoustonNit, yes, I've been working with Wyoming Whiskey as their master blender continuously since Oct. 2014, just after master distiller Steve Nally left. I'm out there 4 or 5 times a year to put together the batches. As a matter of fact I'll be headed back out that way the first of October to finish out this year's blending season. I've been working with John Little at Smooth Ambler off and on since 2013. I've only consulted for them and helped train their blender over the years, so I'm not a "regular" in the same way I am for WW. However, I did just do some work for them last week and got to go through some really tasty barrel samples. And I'd love to get back down to my basement to start cleaning it out, but I'll have to wait until my ankle is up for the challenge. Cheers, Nancy

That's a quality stash.

What are some of your favorite vintage barrel strength Armagnacs? Well, I'm actually waiting for my first to arrive. It is a 1999 Darroze Domaine de Dussans 20-Year Single Barrel Bas-Armagnac. Pretty excited for it to arrive. In general, I really like DeLord Bas-Armagnacs. Also, Korbel produces a very nice Alambic brandy that I'm fond of. I don't want to get too crazy with brandies since bourbon is my real passion and I don't think my wife could handle me buying deep into another spirit. But come fall/winter here in the Bay Area, I really enjoy sipping on brandy. The aromas and flavors fit the weather and scenery for me.

You're in good company on here, and certainly with me, since I got my start in production with brandy. FYI, if you want to go hang out and chat with those of us that are brandy lovers, if you look under "Other Alcohol-Related Discussion" on the StaightBourbon website, then go to "General Non-Whiskey Alcohol," you'll find the "French Spirits Forum," as well as a "General Guide to Buying Vintage Armagnacs" that I put together last year. Folks like @tanstaafl2, @kevinbrink, @Kpiz, @EarthQuake, @HoustonNit, @Kane, @Marekv8, @KyleCBreese, etc., are regulars on that forum. Although it is hot as heck here in the Bay Area and doesn't feel like it, it is beginning to be brandy season as far as I'm concerned. Come chat about all things brandy with us brandy lovers on those forums! We'd love for you to join us.
