What Bourbon did you purchase today (Winter 2018)

Picked up a Booker's 30th from my trusted local.  Some stores still reward loyal customers by holding something for you and selling it to you at retail.

I don't care about the value of this bottle, but since I know it is an outdated label(I think they are cool) I was just wanting to get an idea of when it was bottled.  One day I may decide to open it but for now I just want to let it sit on a shelf. I drink/plan to drink what I buy for the most part. Right now I have about 20 bottles open and when I work through a few of them then others will be opened in their place. I really just got into bourbon last year and have been on a quest to try lots of different ones to find where my preferences lie, hence why I bought over 50 bottles last year. Most of them are different, but I do have multiples of some things that I really liked(i.e. Eagle Rare & Rare Breed). I recently discovered a fond appreciation for WT Rare Breed and since the price has gone up slightly on it I purchased all the bottles a store near me had since they were by far the lowest price around.

Oh yes, and I had just come from a cycling class at the gym so there I was in 30 degree weather, cycling shorts and a pearl izumi jacket surrounded by WT 101 bottles, quite the spectacle if I do say so myself.

My guess with nothing to support it is by the point they started selling the age stated on the back bottles there stock was stretched thin. They realized they could provide a better product if they had the option of blending in there younger but good barrels.

 

Ill second this. I remember being very disappointed with the first bottle of rear AS I bought. It seemed different. I think they were using what ever 12s they had to batch, no matter barrel quality. I do enjoy the PS bottles now, which are often 11-12 yrs (tho I recently had a mediocre 12 PS, too much wood & very little of that rich burnt brown sugar note).

I actually got it last week; had a $100 bill to spend and had to decide between this one and a J-Mag. I hope I didn't make a mistake, but had not tried this one so.....

Anybody try this? What say you?

I’ve got a bottle, but haven’t opened it yet. I’ve got a bottle of the 2017 open and I really like it!

I like it very well.      Would I buy another bottle for the premium required?    No.     It's just not as special as all that cheddar.    Having had the experience, I'm satisfied with the one bottle.

It is quite nice, and a somewhat unique profile (not way far from any other good Bourbon; but, different, especially in  the smooth buttery mouthfeel).

I like the 2017 enough, that I bought a 2018. You need to like that wine influence, because it is strong. But there is a solid blend of bourbons underlying the finish. Good stuff IMHO.

I have a 2016 open and I like it but never went to it often, I had the 2017 at the distillery and to my tastes it was better than the 2016 but then again you never know how the other environmental stuff effects your tastes. If I'm remembering right they reused the same wine casks from 2016 for the 2017 and 2018 releases so the wine influence I would think would be diminished with each batch (a good thing in my opinion), the barrels were also recharred for 2018. Each blend was also different with the 2017 and 2018 containing some of Limestone Branch's own distillate.

Ive got the 2015 unopened. Tried the ‘16 and didnt care much for it. Heard good things about the ‘18.  Are they mixing up the recipe each year? I know this one is finished but other than that, is it the same stuff each year?

As mentioned above, the 2016 through 2017 use the same wine barrels for finishing, except the 2017 and 2018 are toasted and charred with the 2018 being the most charred. As Kevin also indicated, the 2017 and 2018 include their own distillate.

Unbelievable find today.  Stopped in the LS with not much new on the shelf.  They did point out a bottle just put in the clearance bin, though.  Peerless rye for $30.

I never had much interest in Peerless, with its $120 price and 24 month age.  Heard it was not a bad drink, but you gotta draw a line somewhere...  but hell yes I bit on the clearance.

No way I’m buying two year rye at $120. However $30, low entry proof, unique cooperage, Micheal Veach has praised what they are doing, I’ll all in to give it a go at that price.

Total wine had the 2017 limited on sale for 40 bucks in Nov-Dec Timeframe.  Bought one, wish I bought 3.

I was able to get 2 bottles at the Montgomery county Wiskey Rocks days. Opened one and bunkered the other. 

 

I do do think that it has a unique flavor profile as well but still think that it’s pretty good! Both of mine were around $75 which I was happy with.
