Hadn’t seen one in a long time. Stopped in to a new old LS and found one.

Following along with the popular theme I also picked up a bottle of 4R small batch select while at lunch. It will be tomorrow before I get to open and taste it as I am on the road to see my niece’s college graduation tonight, but I am looking forward to it.

Lunch time purchases are always the best!

I don't believe Indiana is on the initial release list so it may be a while before I see a bottle.

Old Fitzgerald family size and a Kentucky vintage I rescued from the clearance rack, along with a NES and CLE Connecticut wrapped stogies for under 60 bucks. Not bad for downtown Chicago prices...

Brother, I hope the light turns on for me.  I had several pours at Sampler and I’m a good 1/3 into my first bottle, and it’s still in that “solid” but not singing to me phase.  It could be that I have no palate left after Sampler, though...  ;)

But as the adage goes:  Winners never quit, and quitters never win....So, I will march on...  :D

It's worth it.

I'm halfway though a bottle now. All my tastes so far have good but not great. Until tonight. It's really singing tonight and it's really tasting unique. Not like any other bourbon, but also not like what I expect 4R to be. Could just be an exceptional palate night!

I've had a bottle open for about a week, and I think its just a decent bourbon. I expected more from 4R. Maybe I'm being to hard on it. But I think its a good bourbon to add to the line up. Something in between the standard SB and Store Picks.

Ran into RHF for the first time in 3 years. I bought all 3 on the shelf.

I'm on my second night in a row of it firing on all cylinders. It's a little different tonight - not as unique as last night - but still bringing a big smile to my face.

Proof is in the pudding as the saying goes, and I've had more "OK" nights than I have had exceptional nights so I can't declare it a winner yet.

I have enough to go on though to say that it's worth everyone's while to buy a bottle and decide for themselves.

Currently in Japan visiting my family and I came  across a hole in a wall liquor store in Miidera, (near Kyoto, Japan) which had 4 different kinds of Blanton’s.  Decided to pick up this Blanton's Gold for about $70 US plus tax ($76 total or 8,400 Yen).

They also had Blanton’s Black (80 proof IIRC) which was about 4,000 Yen or $36 per bottle.  Regular Blanton’s was about 6,000 Yen or $54.

Wanted something , cheap, with a little bite to it. I sampled the OF rye , a couple of weeks ago when we toured the distillery.  I really like. I imagine that it's great in an Old-fashioned.

I've been meaning to try the OGD BIB, for some time now. Picked it up for $21.00, so giving it a shot (pun fully intended, I'm drinking some now?)  Not a bad pour

The high rye recipe of the OGD BIB is one of my favorite bourbons for that cocktail.  I’m a fan of the Old Forester Rye as well, but haven’t tried it in an old fashioned yet. I might have to give that a try this weekend.

Bought JB Black yesterday and regular MM today. Garden and flower beds are almost done and that's my reward.

Nice pickup! If I were you I would grab some turkey and super premium 4R while I was there.

This is the version of the 4 year that I have. Haven’t cracked it yet. Hoping it’s as stellar as I’ve heard the higher proof one is.

I was just chillin with a pour I’d this. It’s quite tasty. It was my first of the Willett ryes and now I know why they are so popular. I keep telling people spicy apple pie, but people think I’m nuts. You all be the judge.

I cracked it, it's delicious. Never tried the higher proof version though.

Saw 3 bottles of this one here in AL yesterday along with many others that I’ve never seen here and didn’t know that it was even offered. $81.00 though, so passed on for now..

Picked up this HMK10 yesterday at a very “unassuming” LS. My gal wasn’t thrilled with the area so I was alotted just a minute there. I’ll be going back solo! Saw a great selection of treaure troves that I didn’t even know was offered here in AL including CEHT and many others. Good news was the prices of the familar pours were in line for the most part.. Left 2 bottles of the HMK.. (Cashier commented that the owner orders “hard to get” stuff but takes forever to arrive). Was worth the hours trip!

Yeah, I paid $73, which still felt like a lot to me. It was more because I read it was a bit unique being a straight rye. Be neat to do a SBS with the New Riff Rye.

Oh,  no issues.. I’d just given $54 for the HMK10 and was on a shot clock with my gal.. Lol. Had I some time to think I probably would’ve pulled the trigger. As I was saying I’d never seen a bottle of CEHT of any variety in the wild here so I’ll return.. A few others there I had my eye on as well! ;)

Might be a bit high, but IMHO it's a damn fine whiskey. I don't know what age the CEHT is, but to me the Taylor doesn't have the younger aged rough edge to it that the New Riff has. A couple more years in the barrel and the Riff is going to be killer.

Well, we know NR is 4 years and that CEHT is at least that. My amateur understanding is that you can get away with less age on ryes  easier than with bourbon.

I guess if I’m doing a Rye BIB SBS, I could throw in WT101 rye and Rittenhouse in the mix. Be an interesting comparison.

Some friends returned from Louisville this past weekend and brought me a gift. I know it was not purchased by me with cash, but friendship is a legitimate form of payment in my book.

I wonder what "a blend of small batch barrels" might mean, and how that would be different than "small batch."
