After 2 hard weeks at work, time to relax a little and blow off some steam this weekend.  Had some Redemption 9yr high rye bourbon, this bottle says batch #1.  It's pretty damn good stuff.

Now sipping some Henry 10.  Just the right amount of oakiness for me tonight.

Changed up my fridge bourbon this week. I gave the HH 90 proof a break and decanted some T.W. Samuels into a couple smaller bottles. It does taste a tad young, but still solid HH. And, no one can complain about a $20.99 family sized bottle. ??

At the Resort enjoying the fire. I am having Weller.  My wife and our friend are having a “Make me disappear” which is a variant of a Mai Tai.

This could go here and in the want did I open thread.  A good buddy and I finished section hiking the Appalachian Trail over a 13 year period this past Wednesday.  So the good stuff got pulled out.  The JPS18 and GTS were cracked this evening.

Jamestown? Probably only part of NY I’ve never been to. Been down the 90 through Erie on my way to Toledo for a job out of college. Been to Salamanca on my way to Bradford for my current job, heck been to the casino there and shot craps and played poker exclusively with guys 2.5 times my age. That area north of there in NY even has its own odd style of country music. I need to get to Jamestown one day.

Not much of a town. It's kinda rundown.

The Mrs. is a huge fan of Lucille Ball, and this is her hometown. They do a bunch of Lucy stuff, and my wife, and her sister,  visit every few years during Lucy's birthday.  The town puts on a bunch of stuff. If I was a Lucy fan, this would be great.

This is my first, and last, trip here. The trip to Niagara Falls softened the blow.  The bourbon and cigars help ?

Wow congrats on the finish the Appalachian trail, did you end in Maine or Georgia or did you do it not in exact start to finish sections. I’d like to do this someday.

That's awesome.  Not a Mets fan, Astros fan here.  Really looking forward to the postseason.

The Elijah Craig PS was sublime.  Now moving to another store pick, but not EC.  One of my all time favorites, Four Roses OESK.

Yeah that Greinke move was unexpected, what a nice surprise for us.  The Mets came out of the trade deadline looking pretty good themselves as well.

Kuddos to you both on the accomplishment as well as the pours! :)  Sharing this sort of experience with a close friend (making that friend even closer, I bet!), as well as the special pours, is really the way to live life, my friend!  ?

Had another pour of RR10 last night.  Initial taste is sweet and good, but it seems to quickly turn bitter.  I think it is the oak.  If so, I just don't care for something that is that bitter.  I may try a little bit of water to see if it makes a difference.

Today, the we are going to Cincinnati.  We will be stopping by Jungle Jim's.  I may also try to stop by the Party Source in Kentucky.  I don't really have anything in mind to buy.  Just going to browse.  Maybe get some little 50ml bottles to sample...

If you make it to the Party Source and are looking to buy a good bottle you can't get in OH for very little money get yourself a Heaven Hill Green Label 6 Year 90 proof.

Thanks.  Yeah, it was done in a fairly mixed up fashion, but the last section went from Monson to Katahdin (i.e. the 100 Mile Wilderness and then summitting Katahdin), so we kind of finished in a "traditional" manner.  All sections were done going North so I finished the equivalent of a NOBO (Northbound) hike.

Thanks man.  Yeah, as I've gotten older I'm really starting to realize what's important in life, and the majority of that is relationships with friends and family.  So yeah, it felt really good to crack 2 unicorn bottles open with one of good buds and celebrate a journey that took so long to complete.  Plus we chuckled that we were probably drinking like hundreds of dollars worth of whiskey based on the street value...it's amazing how stupid things in the bourbon world have become.

Digging through some bottles in the back of my shelf. Forgot about the EC and Weller antique local picks. Solid stuff all around and no idea how I haven't finished these bottles yet.

Whoa, time to get the big boy pants on! Like someone made a luge out of a slab of oak and poured this one down.

Even after I added some spring water, this still fought back. Gotta find the sweet spot with this one.

I don't know you are just passing through or staying overnight but another great place to stop is Cork n Bottle on Crescent in Covington.  They usually have stellar store picks. The name may have changed but it is on Crescent right off the interstate.

Yeah.  Fun run.  I broke out my WTMK Decades to celebrate when Dr. Doolittle appeared and then had to use it to drown my sorrows.  And that's not the worst news.  We have tickets for the Mets @ Nats "Seniors stroll the bases" game in early September, and I just learned Mr. MET will be there.  OMG is there NO GOD?????

So tonight I'm finishing off a VOB "100".  Is a lot cheaper than the WTMK.
