Lucky Day Whiskey.jpg

I'm here in beautiful downtown Buffalo, NY with SWMBO on her nostalgic memories tour of the old homestead, elementary school, high school, Niagra Falls (hot and sunny on Tuesday), Cole's restaurant/pub (where she used to hang out with her dad to put salt in his beer when she was 10), etc., etc.  She hasn't been home in over 35 years, so it was time.   ?

Went to the Lucky Day restaurant (above) on Pearl Street last night for a wee dram and a bite to eat.  They had an abfab whisk(e)y list that had a lot of Unicorns available for purchase.   While she had 2 full pours of The Glenfiddich 15 during dinner (we shared a sausage platter and 2 creme brulee desserts) I had the following:

1 Sazerac cocktail during "Happy Hour" made with Old Overholt rye, Herbsainte absinthe, Peychaud's bitters and orange peel.

1 oz pour of FRSmBS to start the sausage platter

2 oz pour of CEHTBP just because

1 oz pour of Saz18 with dessert

Needless to say, all were absolutely delicious and SWMBO drove back to the hotel (yea!).  Feeling great this morning - that's why we drink the good stuff when imbibing large quantities of brown liquor, no?   ?

Ah I seem to recall your wife was from Buffalo, poor you. Where you there for the game where the dirty NE Cheaters should’ve lost to the Bills?

Bar/restaurant looks great I’ll need to check it out next time I’m up there.

How’s the sausage?

Nope, not here for the game - flew in Tuesday.  "If you're not cheatin', you're not winnin'!"  So true for so many competitions (heh, heh).   ?

It's well worth a visit to Lucky Day - lots of on- and off-street parking available.  Check out their website for an almost current list of their whiskey offerings.  There were several bottles on the shelves that were not on the list (Weller 12 ) and a couple that were sold out that I was hoping to try (i.e., Old Fitz BiB 9yr).  Japanese, Irish, Scotch, etc. available, too.   ☺️

And the sausage plate consisted of "white" sausage (chicken), chorizo, liverwurst (yum!), and bratwurst with toast points, deli mustard and pickled onion/hot peppers garnish.  More than enough for two (especially after a couple of foot-longs lunch at Ted's!).    ?

Ted’s!!!!

People in Buffalo make a stupid argument that pizza in Buffalo is the best of both Chicago and NY style pizza. Completely stupid, pizza is not good quality. The hot dogs is however the both of both worlds and the foot longs chargrilled are as a must whenever in the area.

In Tampa with two buddies sans wives and kids. It was a good day. Nap then off to casino. AD84AFF6-5156-449B-B0D3-DBC926DF55E0.thumb.jpeg.f230636f0a2ceae13a25f1ddf5c3eef8.jpeg

Using the chilies to cleanse your palate between sampling’s?

Heard the poker games are soft in Florida.

I’ve been dealing with a cold the last couple of days. I know that a pour of something good would most likely be a waste, so I’m trying to kill two birds with one stone. Literally. I have a number of low fill bottles, so a little venture was in order to hasten the emptying of a couple of bottles, and to find something at least a little enjoyable for my palate. I ended up (again) blending some Kirkland bourbon with a dusty Barclay’s.  ?  Hey, it works.  ?

Biba! Joe

Hee hee love those tongue  in cheek Pats jokes we love the love ? thank you. But seriously that was an ugly win against a stout opponent, it could have easily slipped away, preseason part deux continues!!

anywho, on topic a 4R sb last night from a stellar local store pick.

Go PATS!!!

Shared a few dusties (L to R bottle codes - 1983, 1999, 1980) with friends who grew up originally in Lexington, KY. Lots of nostalgia for them reading the towns where these were distilled.

On way home from airport after trip to Chicago, picked up another Early Times BIB.  On the rocks outback.  Glad to see it in Georgia.  Wonderful whiskey at a great price and volume.  Cravat Boy picked a different whiskey as America’s Best Value Whiskey.  He didn’t even correctly pick the best value whiskey at Brown Forman...

Go BILLLS!!!

Fixed your post for you. How’d the standard 4R SB, it’s been a while for me, oddly I think I prefer regular yellow label. Maybe the best 80 proofer.
