silverc
Merchant Blender No. 3 - Valedictorius. This is a 4 grain blended bourbon put out by Big Red Liquors in Indianapolis. It's 2 yrs, 106 proof and distilled by Starlight in Indiana. I got this for $20 last summer when passing through Indy. I think regular price was more like $40 or $50. So far it's not bad. Obviously some youth and is a bit rough, but the 4-grain mashbill gives it some complexity. It lacks the typical corn and ethanol note common on many craft noses, so that's a nice bonus. I wouldn't buy it at full price, but so far it seems like a good pickup for $20.
Vosgar
Finally decided to open this today and it's kind of a strange one...... Noses more like a ND Old Taylor than anything, along with a little bit of classic WT to it. After nosing I thought it would be a wonderful pour, but the combination isn't working too well. It seems like the flavors don't want to get along and are fighting each other. As always, it could just be an off day for my taste buds so I'll try it again in a few days. Maybe my hopes were a little high?

Kepler
I opened up one from my bunker that I think was purchased about a year ago but I don't recall for sure. David Nicholson Reserve, which is the black label (bourbon with rye in mashbill). I didn't have any expectations, but it's tasting rather good tonight. Prevalent nuttiness flavor so thinking Heaven Hill...

I always have one open and reach for it as often as many other brands.

Postal Grunt
I opened up the newer bottle of KCSiB that I purchased earlier this week and did a little side by side with an older KCSiB that I had purchased from the same HyVee wine and spirits department and opened recently. I decided to go hardcore and drank both of them straight. Not possessing a super sensitive nose or ultra discerning palate, all I can say is that both samples were capable of opening my sinuses and tasted great. It's really good whiskey and I have no quibble about the price paid. Edited February 23, 2020 by Postal Grunt
Wedelstaedt
I opened up a LB3 earlier tonight. It is a curious whiskey. The components of the blend are distinguishable. At times on the same pour, other times not. I haven't decided if I want another bottle. For now I am interested, as I have not experienced a whiskey such as this previously. Cheers.

Two words, BOURBON ZEN! Right now I have to say that it was the best pour of bourbon I have ever experienced. Caramel, chocolate and dark fruit on the nose and the mouth feel and taste I can only compare it to the one time I had a bottle of Dom Perignon. Everything on the nose was there in the taste but it was the most balanced smoothest pour ever. Absolutely no heat just tons of flavor. Of course it's a SiB so I'll probably never be able to find another but thankfully I have this bottle to savor. I agree, I got a bottle of this by mistake at a Total Wine in Florida late last year. They were grabbing a SmB from the back and grabbed this instead. Great smooth taste, easily one of my favorites. Not easy to find though.

I have a bottle of the 1843 wheated too, though it's been awhile since I l've had a glass I remember it as good whiskey as well. SBS will be happening before too long for sure! Kepler
Cracked open a new one. A good chunk of this bottle will be enjoyed mixed with WSR, but tonight it's really good all by itself. So much flavor!

Opened it to celebrate my retirement (sorry if I'm beating that to death, it's just that I'm so damn happy about it!). Absolutely love this whiskey. It's like Old Fitz DSP16 on steroids and a little more viscosity. Chewably delicious.

Harry in WashDC
Um. I can't remember, and it was just before dinner. Let me look . . . AH!! Murray Hill Club, Batch 18, Bottle 800. NAS, 103 proof. I only have two unopened MHC 18s left. Dinner included Manhattans (2:1::OF RYE:Dolins Sweet Vermouth) so OF COURSE I couldn't remember.

I like to see as many newly Opened as I see over in the new Purchases thread! Lemme get this straight - you like to see "as many opened" equal or exceed the number of "Purchased"? I bet you are one unhappy Dude. THAT has not happened in my house since about 2005. Open one, buy one+ (even if the open one is not empty) is the rule here just in case of the Apocalypse. Or spousal revolt - whichever comes first.
