What Bourbon are you Drinking - Spring (2Q) 2021

Sipping/guzzling some McKenna 10 as a celebration, of sorts, to opening day.  I’ve had this bottle for a few months but just getting around to cracking it open.

 

Pairing it with a La Gloria “Spirit of the Lady”, and my my it’s just right.  Didn’t know what I was missing, highly recommend both.

Needed something different today, so reached for the BHC VSOF 12 yr.  Some nice light sweetness with cherry notes early, then the wood plows through.  Heavy burnt brown sugar notes along the way keep it from going off too much.

 

This bottle has been open for a while, and I think it’s getting towards the end of being able to hold its original form.  But, still showing flashes of its original fine self.  But, what a wonderful whiskey it has been for me.

When I have any bottles get below half full, I target them for faster consumption.  It doesn't happen quickly but I've forgotten about low fill bottles for a while and they were clearly too muted when I came back to them .  Inert gas works too but that's just another damn thing to think/worry about.

Cool spring day so time for some yard cleaning.  The wife and I cut down four big cedars that started to lean over winter.  All of them got tangled into some other trees so a bit of a pain to drop.  
I decided to cut the grass after we finished.  
All is done and starting the night with a large WSR.

Time for 3 lbs of boiled shrimp, fries and corn on the cob..  Oh yeah., and a second  WSR.  
I just took the dog out and I can still smell the cedar on the wind.  Dang, that is nice!

Today I’m celebrating my emancipation from one of the most toxic, narcissistic people I’ve ever had the misfortune to know. I’ve been reporting to him for a little over a year, but he’s been wreaking havoc on my career (and others’) for over 5 years now. I’m starting out with a WRDO store pick to support a local LS that bought a barrel. I’m sure I’m going to hit something a bit more top shelf a bit later. I might over-serve myself tonight a bit. The stress from the last few years has been the equivalent to losing my father. That’s really tough for me to type, but it’s true. My company finally recognized my plight and offered me a promotion and an opportunity to leave the situation once and for all. Cheers everybody!

Cheers and congrats DC. To put it nicely, my current supervisor is difficult to work for to say the least. My emancipation will be when I retire in a few short months. Kick back and enjoy your pours brother. You deserve it.

Seeing the light at the end of the tunnel makes it bearable. I’m not close to retirement, but I know what seeing the light at the end of the tunnel feels like, and it’s glorious.

Sometimes watching baseball or any sport while drinking bourbon makes you lose track of your consumption. MCK10 is a solid pour even as a single barrel.

I got a bottle of this for 2017 Christmas. It just wasn't my thing then.

I'm sure glad I recently came back around to give OF another chance. This is flat out fantastic. Im glad it wasn't a limited release with the movie it accompanied.

On vacation this week. It’s been a bit frustrating because I had planned to get some outdoor projects done, but cold and windy weather put a damper on things for the most part. I did get a few indoor things done, along with a couple minor outdoor ones. Also, with a partial kitchen remodel in the works, we have tentatively ordered new countertops.  I be climbing the BT ladder tonight. Weller SR, BT, ER, and Blanton’s so far. At least one or two more pours to follow in all likelihood.
