Good call.  The KC Rye price was fine.  But, BT is $23.99 in Indy.  I guess it depends on local availability.

Yep. I'll gladly drink bourbon with a screw cap (e.g. EW BIB and/or OF 100), but I won't pay $36 for it.

In the Indianapolis area, sometimes we see BT on sale around $20, no joke.

Availability ebbs and flows.  Stores may have cases and cases, then go down to just a few bottles.  It's the one Bourbon brand we get from Frankfort, unless you count Benchmark.

No kidding.  You would think they could spare a little more for their brothers to the north!

What y'all don't care for the spicy side of life?   🙂

There's probably plenty of bottles I also prefer for less $$, but it's hard to beat the overall balance of 4R small batch.  To my palate anyway it tastes like bourbon should.  I do prefer the 4RSiB for sipping but when I want a 90 proofer it fits the bill nicely and beats most challengers.

P S. I'm no mixologist but I assume the high rye content and accompanying complexity is surely why it's so good in cocktails.

Agree 100% . Great well balanced bourbon . Classic.

I was very tempted based on the positive feedback by my trusted resource  @fosmith ... but alas I passed on Benchmark Full Proof yet again (3rd time 😄).  I'm trying to practice self control here and not purchase full size bottles simply out of curiosity, well, because I have enough bottles to last a couple of lifetimes haha .. 😜 🤷‍♂️

I had a bottle of Benchmark FP a few months ago and was underwhelmed. Too hot without water and meh with water. I’m trying the bonded Benchmark now and I think I prefer it. Give me WT 101 over either though.

Indeed, Benchmark is cheap well liquor.  I suppose better than having no whiskey at all, but if you have any options, spend just a few bucks more and get something decent.

Passed on 2 4R picks on 2 occasions at separate stores within the last week. It’s been months since I’ve seen any. Both of these were by themselves behind the counter on a back shelf. Both priced at $149.99. These are my BTAC kind of exciting find, but I just can’t at that price. I guess that’s the new price in SC. These 2 stores were 3.5 hours away from each other but selling them 1 bottle at a time at the same price. 😪

  • 2 weeks later...

I don't know what this says about us but it has been 10 days since anyone posted what bourbon they passed on. 😀

I had to travel from Indy to Chicago yesterday.  On my way home, I stopped in a large store in NW Indiana.  I generally find their prices a little higher than Indy but if I find something worthwhile that I can't find in Indy, I might pull the trigger.

I know some in this community might nut-punch me for this but I passed on Parker's Heritage for $179.99 and ECBP for $84.99.  I haven't seen Parker's on the shelf or in this case on a barrel in the aisle since the second release.  Even if I would consider the Parker's for the price, I am not much of a fan of double-barreled bourbons.  The ECBP was a closer call as they had a store pick and C922.  I really like the C922 batch.  I decided I will scout for more in Indy where I have been able to find it for $74.99.  They had only one bottle of Parkers but several bottles of ECBP.

They had a deep shelf of KC12.  I passed on it at $69.99.  I can find it for $63.99 in Indy.

But, McDonald's had double cheeseburgers for 50 cents today if you bought through their app.  You aren't busting my balls for passing on that! 😜

Yeah I would’ve done the Parker’s. Not that big of a deal tho IMO.

Third in line.  I'd happily Venmo or trade nicely for that.  By "nicely", I mean such that even Cheap Bastards can wash the stink of having paid that much per bottle off their little Scrooge McDuck hands!  😉

I liked the Ritt 23 more than the Handy. I was surprised it wasn’t overly woody. I found the Ritt 23 while on vacation in Marco Island Florida in 2009. They had it on sale at an absolutely crazy good price. I ended up buying 3. Imagine my surprise when they still had a bunch left the next year. I bought 4 more. FWIW, I did share my bounty. 😎

Biba! Joe

I can confirm that @fishnbowljoe did share his bounty! Thanks, Joe!

Everyone knows Parker's Heritage is the perfect pairing with a McDonald's double cheeseburger.

Keeping with my Cheap Bastard ways.  As noted, McDonald's had double cheeseburgers on sale for 50 cents yesterday and today but only if you order through their app.  I don't have their app.  However, I was in a rush at lunch so I had to hit McDonald's.  I opted for the McDouble.  Same as a double cheeseburger but with one less piece of cheese and 50 cents cheaper.

Hhhhm.  Passed on basic BT yesterday for $32 which was lower than it usually is - WHEN I see it.  I guess I'm going to have to adjust my acceptable price if I want to add to the bunker or the dining room floor.

I think you made the right choice.

It would’ve been between that and the Handy for me.

I think it's good but not $109 good.

I know they raised the price,  but I think it's worth a Benjamin.   I love RRR VI;  it doesn't have the age of RRR V but taste tells - it's a lip smacker.
