A gift from the neighbor two doors down.  They were in Calif. for about three weeks visiting the daughter and grandkids.

While walking my dog about a week ago on a Sunday morning I heard water running from their house.  The lawn underground sprinkler system had cracked past the 1/4 turn valve and was spraying quite a bit of water.  I shut it off and took the dog home.

I grabbed some supplies and went back.  Fortunately no issues inside.  I cut the pipes and put a patch in, fixed.  I went back a few hours later and turned the water back on and everything held.  Checked it for a few days and no problems.

When they got back he wanted to pay me.  I told him I would not accept, it’s what neighbors do.

Today he walked up and handed me this.  He said, “it’s what neighbors do”.  He said he guy at the liquor store told him it was the only one they’ve seen.

A 15.3 year Beam, oh hell yes!

Great post @markandrex. Worthy of post of the year consideration. I’d have given it four thumbs up if possible. 😎

Found a local store willing to sample out a huge selection of store picks.  I had never even heard of this one before, but had to leave with it.

After enjoying the half bottle of 15 year @GeeTen left behind and listening to all the positive reviews here on the 16, I finally pulled the trigger.  Last one at a local shop.  Figured I better do it now before it’s all gone.

You turned a negative into a positive and helped someone out at the same time.  Well Done!

OK, I'm cheating a little here.  Gonna be in Houston at the end of the month.  Got room for 8 bottles.  Don't have to use it all, but PR being PR (bourbon desert), I tend to fill up the suitcase when I can.  This will lead to a future "what I bought" post, hence the "cheat".

1). Any places known for good store picks?

2). The Galleria seems to have a bougie TW.  Anyone who wants to search for fun, suggestions are welcome.  I look for what they have available.  Stuff like ECBP will not be on the site, you have to go in and see.  My initial thoughts on what I can see are below.  Please point out flaws, things I missed, recommendations - if you are so inclined and have the time.  Many of you will of course have things you'd rather be doing (e.g., walking your gold fish, washing your hair, etc.).

A. Barrel Selects are interesting and not horridly priced.  But I'm not familiar with the ones in stock.  New Year at $90.  Batch 33 any good?  The price is lower than I expect for Barrell.   Kepler?

B. Four Roses OBSK Barrel Strength Single Barrel Select - OK, that's interesting.  It does strike me as a little odd that it's lasted so long (a friend already picked up at least one for me), but that sometimes happens at TW.  $90.

C.  Ezra CS Select at $70.  Never tried it, no idea what it's like.  Ditto Distillers Collection Select at $54.

D.  Saffell, $52 for a 375.  Several of you have mentioned it.  Worth it?

E.  Still Austin Cask Strength Bourbon Whiskey - I think Nancy was involved with this one.  It received very good ratings given its youth (2y).

F.  WTRB is priced at $46, not bad.  I wonder if it's that cheap in Indiana - Mbroo?  You guys really got me hooked on this one.  I can get in PR for $65, saving transport hassle.  It'd be one I get if nothing else stands and I figure "F it, lets save $20/bottle and lug it".  I always thought of WT (and by extension RR) as "shit college students get blind on".  Not so.  Or at least not exclusively so!

G.  1792 FP Barrel Select at $45.  Seems worthwhile.

H.  Blade & Bow at $42 seems pretty darned good.  That's a solid one that has grown on me.

I.  HH7 for $40.  Seems like a good price.  I have to open the one I have and decide if I like it.  Mixed reviews, some tainted by "I liked 6 at less than $20 better, not happy with price increase, etc.".

J.  1792 BiB Store Select at $35.  Not so sure about that one, I've heard better things about the FP.  Though Gadzukes, they certainly put the "proof" in FP.  Don't spill that on the car paint job.

I'll need to review what Spec's has got.

More cheating.  Specs:

1). Is this Sintra JD hype?  For $160 it had best be good.  I wonder how it compares to JDSBBP.

2). A lot of older Barrells, Kepler?

3). JDSBBP at $62, perhaps a fall back suitcase filler.  I like it, but not as much as some of you.

Not much else there that isn't cheaper at TW.

For $160, Old Blue Eyes better rise from the grave and sing "New York, New York" when you open it.

It’s that time of year.

The rye is always the best and a step up from regular saz at 7 years/94p.

The other two usually just follow it home because my inner tater is ocd and wouldn’t have it any other way. 😁

Picked up a Very Old Barton for 17$ and a David Nicholson for $11.50

Passed on a KC9 store pick for $70

Lots of over priced stuff at the Bardstown Wine and Spirits

The VOB 86?   I haven’t seen the 100 here in awhile.  Guess I’ll have to special order which means buying a case of 6,  KC 9 goes for $30 or so here lately.

Always passed on the Sinatra after tasting a shot or two (being honest, it was late and the bartender and I were ruminating about overpriced bourbons so the shots were hefty IIRC).  Having consumed quite a bit of JDB in the 1970s (was my only neat or ice hard liquor back then), I was pleased when B-F released the barrel proofs.  I do think it is older than their other premium releases as it lacks the  banana ester AND the super sweet note I find in Gentleman Jack.

Been a while since I've tried that.  May need to do so again.  Bye-bye liver.  The Bad Men at SB made me do it.

Snagged my first bottle of this yesterday as well -- I like the 14 a lot and have read some really positive things about the 16, and it fits (barely) in with the "$10 a year of aging" concept. It was my first time gaining entrance into the fancy bottle room at my town's Binny's!

Of these choices, the Saffell and OBSK are the easy choices.  The Saffell continues to be underrated.  Think of it as a Master's Keep for $100 per 750ml.  It's better to my palate than WTMK 17 and Decades, and better than any RRSiB pick I've ever had.

Thanks for the feedback.  Especially the specifics on Saffell.  I've heard it well-mentioned here before.

Finally nabbed a bottle of the Kirkland/Barton Single Barrel. Might just have to bunker some of this stuff...little hot neat @ 120 proof but enjoyable...opens up with a little splash of water. But neat gives me even more of that dark fruit/black cherry-ish note I love about 1792 SmB...rather enjoying this one.
