Went to my local KY friend's place yesterday.  Brought a few, tried some of his.  He has some serious bottles.

The Parkers was one of the best whiskies I have ever tried.  Just spectacular.  Deep, complex, flavorful, sweet, not over oaked, viscous, drank well below its considerable proof.  Could not get enough.

The 4R 16y was just a hair shy of the Parkers.  I liked it much more than their younger cask strength offerings.  The time in the barrel did not over oak it (they have those low rickhouses) and really added to the flavor.  Frighteningly easy drinker.

HH17 - very good, finally opened it.  But at least at first blush, not the "wow" I expected.  Granted, many bottles take time to grow on me.

Lux12 - very good.  A touch too oaky for me, but not so much that I dislike it.  Easy drinker, lots of flavor.

RR Store Pick - massive bang for the buck. Sooo good, as they always are.  And I like the new label.

Another 4R - very good, not even close to the 16y.

Couldn’t agree more with you on these two.  The PHC is one of my favorite things I’ve tried recently.  A couple drops of water just opened it up beautifully, and I would absolutely choose it over much of the other LE’s from this past fall.

I don’t think the HH17 is all that special. For me it has a slightly off putting/weird finish that ruins the experience for me.

Ive had much better stuff from HH in that age range in WHH and EC bottlings.

Like you said, it’s good, but not much wow factor, and the wow factor is entirely what Im looking for in bottles like this.

That Lux Row DBA-12-yr. is nice.   I've only ever sampled one (at the distillery, and bought it on the spot); but it was/is a very nice well-aged, well blended, well selected Bourbon.   I understand from some that there is some variability (to be expected); but, mine is a stellar pour.   It is right up to the line of age; but, not past it for me.      I wish I had more, cause this one's on it's last 2-or-3 pours.

Save that bottle when it's empty.  It makes a nice decanter, and they're not making them anymore.  Now WTKS comes in a rather plain bottle.

So you say!😉

Opened an 'old' bottle of EWSB Vintage.   This is one of the last of the ones before they started getting so much younger than 10-years.   One of several of this particular barrel that I hunted down back in the day.   A good un!    It isn't quite 10-years old (about two months short); but the obvious nutmeg, vanilla, a hint of cinnamon, and a bit of allspice make it a treat neat.    Straight up Heaven Hill!    And, at 86.6-proof (I still think weird & gimmicky) it's a very enjoyable easy drinker.   In fact I probably had one too many and left the bottle down several inches.   I have two more from this barrel, so that's OK.

In its Hey Day, it was a great single barrel expression of what Heaven Hill is capable of.  I am not sure why they let this unique offering fade into undrinkable obscurity.

I was watching the Lions-Packers game and my wife walked in and turned the tv to Hometown.  She said we are watching Hometown until 9 and then you can watch the football game.

I was already halfway through my pour of Turkey in the Buffalo glass so I acquiesced.  I am now following up with a pour of FRSiB in the Buffalo glass.

Since both pours were up to his nose, I guess you could say I had a couple snorts of whiskey. 😀

I love these things. There is a lot of differences barrel to barrel but don't think I've had a bad one. They are all like "variations on a theme".

As I've said before, I don't believe in divorce, I do however believe in snipe hunting!!! To this day, the Missus still won't pick up the bag and get in the truck. She will, of course turn the tv anywhere she damn well pleases...  😢

Sad to say, I have had one real bomb. After, I started paying attention to the pickers and have to say that they seem to look for a particular note whether it fits or not. Other than that one, I have had several winners and have one of my favs, still stashed... 😎

A bit of OWA while preparing Baked lemon and butter cod.  I say bit, because this one is tossing up huge Bit-o-Honey candy notes, tonight.

I'll be over for left-overs of both the cod and the OW

Realized I hadn't had a bottle of OGD BIB open in a while. Went out and picked one up yesterday. Opened and had a pour last night. Am now having another while cleaning the dirty dinner dishes.

That sounds like you might be “fishing” for some OWA Nancy.🫣

The welcome mat is out!  I must admit that the cod is better than a Pal’s hot dog!  😁
