What rye are you drinking or purchased 2024

I had a nice pour of BBC Origin Series Straight Rye (finished in toasted cheery wood and oak barrels).   I like it a great deal.   I wish I'd bought a couple when I was down in B'town.

Not sure if it's available around here.   I guess I'll hafta check, as this one is getting low.

Today I seeded some annual winter grass in the back yard to keep decent ground cover going during the winter months where the dog beats down the grass.

And I put up outside Christmas decorations and yard ornaments in the front yard.

Now I'm in the Christmas spirit.  But I have a sore back.  I happen to have the perfect medicine for my condition.

Happy FRyeday.

Isn’t interesting how we associate certain bottles or types of expressions with certain times of the year.
For me, when I think of Thanksgiving pours, it isn’t Wild Turkey, even though as a proud Flock member I always haveTurkey. I associate  Rye with Thanksgiving.  Because, Thanksgiving was the first time I got to taste THH or any of the BTAC for that matter, (thanks  to the generosity of my brother.)
Christmas is different for me, because I associate everything on my bar and my brother’s bar with Christmas. Because , we are always get together for The Christmas Holiday and our bars are open to each other for the choosing.
If I have to choose a bottle(s), to associate with Christmas, I’d say there are two,
4RSmB LE and WLW. These bottles were gifts in different years.
Thank you for the walk down memory lane.

Cheers.

Picked up and tasted a Knob Creek SiB rye pick I helped do for a store - my opinion on Knob Creek rye has really improved lately. Ours was 8.5 and really tasty and I have seen rye picks as old as 10 years. And, at least for now, the price has not been increased from when these were much younger.

What is the price on the barrel pick you did?

MSRP is $60, but we get a pretty good deal so it was $55 for our members including some money for charity.

I decided to open up an oldie but goodie tonight. This is a 2012 Saz 18 year.

So delicious, I’m going to really enjoy this bottle.

Happy FRyeDay, Y’all!  I pretty much dig all of the Chattanooga Whiskies I’ve tried.  Perhaps, I can run up there over the Holidays for a tour.  And for a possible bonus, there’s a Buc-ee’s on the way!!  🤣

Earlier today I took my daughter to the Nutcracker, and then to a nice restaurant. I had a filet, she had a bistro filet. With the meal I had a glass of the house cab, and being 8 she had a ginger ale. Now that I'm home I am finishing a lsb 20. This pour had a little barrel char in it. I'm going to miss drinking these. I only have one more left after this one so I'm going to wait a little before I open it.

FRyeDay pour of one I picked up today.  This is really, really, good.  Ryes are tricky to me.  I went for years not understanding that there are so many flavor profiles.  Upon entering this American whiskey wonderland, I figured rye whiskies would taste like the rye bread I grew up with and loved…nope.  So many avenues available.  Baking spices, smack you in the face spice, dill, mint, etc…But, this is the first rye that I’ve had that clearly smacked a rye bread note.  Loving it.

Interesting that you say this as I just enjoyed the last pour from a rye that to me is the MOST rye, rye I've ever had,  by that I mean as you described, it tastes very distinctly of rye bread and I have always loved that flavor, been my favorite bread since childhood.

In my case the rye I speak of is a Starlight 4yr 111.6p that I bought at the distillery in a 375 size. I was there to try Starlight and see what all the hub bub was about, tasted a few other bottles and quite liked them (a cognac finish was OUTSTANDING and found its way home with me). These 375 size ryes were in a basket, none open for sampling, so I bought based on the strength of the other samples I had and it delivered a rye experience unlike any of my other ryes. That wide spectrum is one of the the things I so love about the world of ryes, its a big, varied, wild and delicious world!! Slainte!

A few years back now. Probably around 2017-18 I found what may have been my favorite bottle of Russell's reserve rye I've ever tried. Lucky me i tried it immediately after purchasing, so I knew to go back and grab a few more. Today I am opening the last bottle of that barrel I was able to purchase. It is heavily oaked, and the thickest whiskey i have ever had. About the consistency of a good balsamic, but obviously it tastes of turkey goodness. I wish I had been able to get even more of these. But I'm glad for the ones I did get. A good RRR is some of the finest whiskey ever made.

Score and pour.  Excited to get this and even more excited to try it, ever since I first heard it was coming out.

This is a true "rye lover's rye."  Tastes unbelievable, especially since it costs less than 80 bucks.
