smokinjoe
FRyeDay pour of one I picked up today. This is really, really, good. Ryes are tricky to me. I went for years not understanding that there are so many flavor profiles. Upon entering this American whiskey wonderland, I figured rye whiskies would taste like the rye bread I grew up with and loved…nope. So many avenues available. Baking spices, smack you in the face spice, dill, mint, etc…But, this is the first rye that I’ve had that clearly smacked a rye bread note. Loving it.

Kepler
I picked up some solid ryes the past 2 weeks. It was difficult to decide which one to open first. The Old Forester BP Rye has eluded me ever since it was first released. I didn't ever hunt for it, but then again I'd never been in the right place at the right time ...until now. Ultimately I decided to crack open the Sag 9 yr first, ... mainly because I'm a huge fan of Sagamore and since I have their 8 yr already open on my bar I wanted to do a direct comparison. Let me just say as much as I love their 8 yr, the new 9 is just better in every way. This one is very possibly my favorite MGP-based rye whiskey I've had to date. That's saying something. Happy fRyeday! Edited November 9, 2024 by Kepler

Happy fRyeday! Like you, I am a fan of Sagamore. I suppose, it is my fave Rye brand from top to bottom. I haven’t seen the 9 yr (or even the 8 yr) in my market. When (if), I come across one, it will be a must buy. Thank you for the mini-review and heads up. Happy FRyeDay

They are just out on the regular shelf. Turns out they are a national release. Just showed up in Texas and I immediately picked up 2 bottles. Enjoyed it last night ... it has a great nose. Thanks for the heads up on this one because until your post I wasn't aware these were coming out.
Mattk
It was quite chilly this morning. So I got the makings of a soup happening. I am also finally getting around to opening up the Vabc ritt sib I purchased some months back. I like it of course. I have had no single barrels that were worse then the standard issue. This pick though is probably my least favorite so far out of the barrels I've tried.
Thomm
Edited for repeat post. Please disregard. Nothing to see here. Move along, people. Edited November 14, 2024 by Thomm Double posted
Thomm
I reached for the not-so-often-reached-for JDSBBPR (mostly because I love the lengthy abbreviation) and poured a solid 3 ounces into a small rocks glass. Is it just my imagination, or does ice melt considerably faster in 132 proof rye?

But now, I can buy it for the same or a slightly lower price than before it disappeared.
Kepler
The Bulleit bourbon was a good spicy pour to sufficiently warm up the old palate. Now it's FRyeday Time. I'm exploring my new Sagamore 9yr bottle more tonight. Plus I've poured some Sag 8yr as well to compare these two some more. It's one of the very best values in whiskeydom for sure. I also like Old Forester 100 Rye, ... for me it's right alongside WT101R. I can't think of any others for $20-25 that match those two for neat sipping. Rittenhouse is close, but I prefer it more for cocktails than neat.
Mattk
I'm on a ritt sib kick lately. This pick from drug city is a real contender. It is probably in the top 5 rittenhouses I've tried.

Next time in that area I'll check it out. My favorite in Ellicot city area is Petite Cellars. They do some very good picks and you can "try before you buy" any of them. There is a caveat, however. It appears as if they have new owners and staff. Not sure when this happened as I don't go often, but the Sagamore Pick that I bought a couple weeks ago is excellent.
