What rye are you drinking or purchased 2024

I've had the good fortune  to open some neat bottles with  friends recently. So my opens shelf is pretty solid at the moment. I currently don't  have a cheap daily, but that will soon be rectified.

We put up a fight, but the Ravens are built for a Super Bowl.  With all the new players and coaches, and a bunch of players on D who wouldn't crack a starting lineup on any other team, we acquitted ourselves well.

Here's to a fun season and a bright future!

New Riff bonded Rye tonight after an Old Overholt bottle kill.  I was gonna dip into the JDSBBP Rye, but there's still another day of work tomorrow.

Cracked into my group’s Peerless rye pick that just came in and it is pretty great. Have the Old Forester SiB BP rye on deck.

Middle West Pumpernickel ported rye. A different profile, savory with flashes of sweet, definite pumpernickel bread notes. This has good complexity for a 5 yr old. First impressions after a purchase earlier this afternoon, looking forward to seeing how this one evolves.

Following up with a 120p WP SBBS store pick from several years ago. This one benefits greatly from a few drops of water, the heat that takes center stage at full proof recedes and a nice fruit/spice balance emerges. Took a few pours to get the balance dialed in and it’s been a very nice bottle ever since.

My cheap-ass couldn't bring myself to waste a perfectly good cube after an Old Fashioned earlier.  😆

Hey!   Waste not, want not, right?    Whether it's a bit of ice remaining when the whiskey runs out, or a bit whiskey remaining when an ice cube melts away, one must replenish and soldier one, eh?  😉🤫  Hee-Heeee!

OF 100 Rye neat while grilling a rib eye then the same in 2:1 Dolin red Manhattans on rocks with real maraschino cherries in Maraschino syrup. Dessert was homemade apple pie with Hagen Daz vanilla with a few drops of Godiva chocolate liqueur drizzled on the IC.

YUM!

This hasn’t even been on my radar over the years, but this one came forced in a package deal @ the gift shop.  Previous tastings of other bottles/barrels by me have been unremarkable and removed the product further from my mind.

Thus,

I gave it to the wife to take to a girls night assuming I would never see it again and it came back < half full with positive reviews.

She’s right.  It’s very good.

Enjoying it as a low proof afternoon fall sip.  Sometimes the single barrel factor works in your favor.

I had a nice pour of Blanton’s after a very long, fun day yesterday. Really hit the spot. 😋
