Two years ago, I called and pre-ordered my BTAC purchases and arrived in KY to find the shelves overflowing with bottles. Last year, I didn't pre-order and once again arrived in KY to find shelves overflowing with bottles. I think I had to go to two stores to get everything I wanted.

Today, I headed to KY for opening weekend of BTAC availability with a bit of a "cocky" attitude....I was sure I'd find the shelves overflowing and I'd stop at one or two stores and be done...........then came the call from Cliff asking me if I pre-ordered because they were sold out:bigeyes::bigeyes: Then, I get a call from Charles telling me he's gone out on his lunch break to pick up his....and the stores aren't even giving him what he pre-ordered!!! :smiley_acbt::smiley_acbt:PANIC!!!

I've never written a long post....but here it comes! Cliff, being the saint that he is, calls a store and uses his contacts to hold three cases for me.....they're out of the other two, so I have to find them on my own. I'm not kidding you guys, the Stagg is plentiful, the ER17 is hit and miss, and the WLW, Saz 18 and Handy are NONEXISTANT! And it's opening weekend! I drove around for 4 hours! One bottle here....one bottle there! I found ONE store that seems to have the Jackpot of WT American Spirits.....all the rest....nonexistant!

Next year....I'm not being "cocky"....I need to get to know a liquor store manager who will hold an order!!

Dawn

None of the stores here will allow you to pre-order or reserve bottles. I'm calling Bevmo 2x a week. Weeks ago they said their store was allocated 6 bottles of Stagg (and I didn't ask about the others) last night when I called he said they were getting 3. Of course I know where 3 of 5 bottle varities from '06 are still on the shelf but NO ONE can tell me when it's coming in! They just look at when they got it last year....grrr...

It's going to be much harder to track down way out west than it will be over in Kentucky!

BULLEIT

nice balance of 90 proof (and more than usual rye content as far as i understand) smoothness and micro-explosion. not complex, but not simple. a solid whiskey, at least, judging from this bottle (i hear there are inconsistencies in bottles...)

I am not (for my part) saying there are inconsistencies (which could imply a QC kind of issue), just that every bottle strikes me as having a slightly different balance of spice, wood and sweet. Truth to tell I find this with most bourbons on the market. This is to the good since bourbon is a partly natural product and cannot and should not be reduced to rote consistency.

i agree that bourbon has a fluctuating aspect as do our tastebuds, moods...add to that, time of day, season: there are alot of factors and dynamics at work. that said, there is a solidity one would expect of a solid bourbon. that (mystical) something that weathers all those organic storms and seasonal, emotive shifts!

for some reason, Wild Turkey 101 has been one of those buoys for me for quite a few years

p.s.

at least, initially, these few pours of Bulleit suggest no mustiness like i got from Weller 107.

but then, last weekend, the mustiness i got from the Weller was found in the RR 1792...and even in a later pour of WT RReserve 90...my palate must have been shot for that day!

Found my first Lawrenceburg VanWinkle Lot B today. Tried to crack it open.....and the cork broke. Damn, that is a terrible feeling. Makes drinking it on the way home very difficult! Thanks to Dawn for letting me know there was a difference between Frankfort and L-burg.

Just placed an order at my local HyVee Spirit Shop, they are great with handling special orders. In about a week I'll be picking up Weller 12, Weller Centennial, and GTS (not sure what year, don't care). Can't wait to try these.

It's official now, so I'll post it here. One each of 2007 George T Stagg, William Larue Weller and Sazerac 18. I feel I should have bought more, but I'm not really ready to be single right now. Still, that's one more of each than I got of last year's versions.

Well I stopped at 6 stores on the way home tonight. I found a bunch but picked up a little. Found EW Distillers Select EWJ 23.79 and 29.99 2 spots. Jeffersons Reserve Crystaql stopper top 49.99 but the only 2 I brought home were the tax stamp 1984 W.L.Weller Special Reserve and one more ER 10yr. 101. Seems I find these one at a time. Better than none at all:grin:

Old Forester Signature. I never have had this spirit before. Interesting stuff I'll have to have a couple more bumps to see what I think taste and smell. Almost went for WT Rare Breed but chose OGD 114 (also a new one). And a couple more Rittenhouse BIB. I can never seem to get enough of this one! Good sippin everyone.

I cannot believe what I ran into!!!!

Just before heading to the liquor store to pick up some WT RB I just happened to call another liquor store nearby just to see if they had any BTAC. Low and behold, the manager said they had the Stagg '07!!!! He didn't think I was serious. He thought it was a joke from another one of their stores. He just acquired the bottle today.

I immediately ran down and guess what? He had one bottle of the entire collection!!!! I couldn't believe what I was seeing. The manager seemed just as excited as I was.

Without even hesitating, I grabbed the Stagg, WLW, Eagle Rare and Sazerac!!!! I left the Handy behind, don't ask me why.

The total bill was a bit devistating but I'll cope since I think it was a pretty good deal. All told, it came to $220.44.

Dang, I don't know which bottle to open first!!!!

Mark, I am super stoked for you, great find and one hell of a way to start off 3rd shift on a wonderful Friday.

I highly recomend the Saz and then the Eagle, but that's me.

Thanks for the input, Tony. Since I'm a sucker for barrel proof, I decided to go with the Stagg. Regardless, I've never been one to have only one bottle open, I shall jump from bottle to bottle without problem.

I've heard so much about the Saz, I can't wait to try it. Though, I find it somewhat dissapointing that both the Saz and ER are only 90 proof. Look at me. One sip of Stagg and I'm already spoiled.:slappin:

No doubt, though, I will love the Saz. Tony, is there a likeness between the Sazerac 18 and VW Rye 13? Just curious.

P.S. I responded to your PM.

Here are some photos of my BTAC minus the Handy. Also included at no extra cost, my ugly mug: :D

I find the Saz softer than the VWFRR but I have not had a bottle of that open in a while. May need to add that to the open bottle list for a side by side. I'm drinking some ER 17yr. 2007 now it's 90 proof but really smooth.

At the time, I couldn't find the VWFRR around these parts so I decided to go online. Internet Wine & Liquors mailed me a bottle (which, as it turns out, is illegal in the state of CT) for only $50-something!!!!

I didn't find out until later, that I was ripped off. Actually, I should check my old thread on this to find out the exact price.

Grabbed a couple in KY they were $38.00 so $ 50.00 might sound bad but in MI it's more than $50.00 so don't feel too bad. I think it's $58.99, state minimum and the A.H. Hirsch just went up to $187.00 minimum (whiskey tango foxtrot).

Dang, Hirsch for $187?! I purchased only one bottle (gold foil) and it wasn't that much but I think it was over $100. Not too sure though.

Picked up 2 Stagg, 2 WLW's and 2 Handy's.

I'm curious where you had to go Joe. I drove to Franklin Mills yesterday to get mine.

Down the street from the hotel we were staying at for Whiskeyfest. I believe it was Christopher Columbus Avenue Specialty store.

picked up 2 each of the full BTAC. had to drive 65 miles into PA but found 4 out of 5 in Newtown (still a bunch there) and the Handy in Doylestown (1 left) The wife doesn't quite understand why I skipped the kids soccer game but it was worth the trip

After 15 years of marriage, I have come to the conclusion that no wife will ever understand...

Oh, and I purchased a bottle of 2006 Stagg today.
