The humidity was not bad last night. The Prensado had been resting in my humidor for a week at 70 percent. This evening I pulled a Macanudo Cafe from my humidor and had no problems with an uneven burn or the cigar having to be relit. It may have been a bad stick.

Been so hot and miserable I haven't been outside to smoke. Now that we got a little relief, I pulled an Ashton VSG out of the "special" humidor to cap off a really nice weekend. Damn close to the perfect cigar.

My son is at Ft Benning right now. It has been awhile since I've received a letter, stressful as a parent. Decided to pull out one of my favs tonight to relax a bit. Padron anniversario maduro. Poured a little of my PHC10 to go along. Even at barrel strength, the PHC's sweetness and smoothness is being a little overshadowed by the padron's full flavor. But it it is slight, and I realize I'm nitpicking. They are both excellent.

I had a 5 vegas gold 5 x 5.5. Beehh. Not much taste or flavor, I got a tiny bit in the bottom 3rd but other than that was not much to the stick.

I find myself in the newbie lurch caught between those that talk about buying value find sticks and resting them for a decent amount of time and looking for things I really like and contemplating some boutique brand purchases.

I have bought way to many Connecticuts and have really only enjoyed a few.

I'm looking forward to an internet order I have coming next week with some Diesel Unholy Cocktails. I have 5 601 Maduros I grabbed last week that I have yet to try.

Rambling, PWD. Night all!

Sounds like some cigar international cigars.5V golds are pretty mild, but good for walking 18 in the heat. The gold maduros and classics are a little closer to medium body. The black label "A" and "AAA" are fuller.

This evening after the sun went down I enjoyed a A. Fuente Signature Hemingway with a pour of VOB BIB. I have a box of Fuente 858 Lonsdale to be delivered on the 27th. It's a pain to have to order everything.

Clingman71, my son is also at Ft. Benning. I just got his mailing address so I can write to him.

Hope your son is well.

I agree with the comments on the 5 Vegas above, with the addition that their yearly "limitada" release is consistently one of my favorites. As far as the Patel seconds from Holts, do you know what line they are from? I would encourage caution here depending on how discounted they are. I am a pretty big fan of most of the Patel smokes, but I bought a box of one of their "exclusively for Holts" blends ( I think it was Ocean something) and they are average at best. If the seconds are one of the proprietary blends, I personally would pass. If they're from the vintage line or decade, might be a great buy.

Keep us posted if you pull the trigger.

Tonight I am enjoying several pours of Old Fitz BIB. It goes well with the A. Fuente 858 Lonsdale that were delivered today.

I am waiting for a letter from my son and I agree being the parent of a young man in the Army is stressful. The last phone call I received from him he sounded like he was really enjoying it. That's a big change from High School when I had to kick him out of bed so he would get to school on time.

I believe graduation is October 14th.

Greg, my son's graduation is also Oct 14. He is alpha co, 2 bn, 330 in, 1st platoon. I plan on making the trip down to ft Benning. If you like, we can plan on meeting and pouring a toast to our sons, and all the soldiers for that matter.

Robert, I highly recommend several of the RP lines, especially the vintage '90 and '92 and the Decades. There is one more I really like, but can't recall the name. It's just the Holt exclusives that didn't really do it for me.

My son is also in A Company 2nd BN 330th Infantry Division. His name is Jason Adams #301. It would be a kick if the kids were in the same barracks.

Thanks for that recommendation. I have not had any RP stuff. Between your post and Clingmans right after with the AF 858, well, I have been staring for 2 days on the monster site that has had a six pack of Maduros for $21 shipped: 2 RP, 2 Oliva O , 2 AF 858.

I swear I'll but that one next time. And I put in my cart two days ago for $20 shipped a 5 pack of the Jaime Garcia Maduro Robusto's but the clock went to the next hour and they jacked the price.

So now I know.

What site are you using? If I order online, I usually use Cigars International; they have pretty good selections of mixed combo packs. They usually offer more name brand cigars than say JR's or Thompsons.

When I say Cigar Monster I mean the daily deals site of Famous. From 11 - 12 each day they have deals up in the a.m. and p.m. hours.

Famous has a few more options than CI. I have been using the auction side of CI as well, Cigar Bid. I have kept that pretty much under control with my biggest newbie mistake of ordering too many 5 Vegas sticks. That really is not such a big deal as I paid less than $3 ea for all of them but if you don't really like them, not much point in buying them............

I don't understand the 5V haters. Is it an excellent cigar, maybe not. But they are solid, and inexpensive especially when purchaded on CIs daily deal with free shipping. I'd love to drink Pappy 20 and smoke Opus Xs everyday, but that just isnt going to happen. Most days it is a 5V and some BT or OWA.

I had 3 different vitolas of the 5V gold. Completely tasteless. Might as well have rolled up some writing paper.

So since I value taste as a quality I feel like my money is wasted when I buy them.

In my experience the 5V Golds and Reds are more like Beam White than BT or OWA.

I do like the 5V A and I have 3 of the 5V AAA coming to try. I thought the 5V Miami were ok, I'm just not into smoking black pepper as a predominant flavor.

Had my first 5V Gold tonight, bought in a sampler from CI, along with some WSR. Unfortunately, both were mediocre.

Tonight I am having a Fuente Hemingway Short Story with several pours of Four Roses Small Batch.

I just placed an order for a box of Hoyo De Monterrey Excalibur Maduro Robusto's. I have only had one of the Excalibers before so I am looking forward to August 3rd when they will be delivered.

Today I placed an order with CI for their Gurkha Cigarnivore III sampler. It contains 18 different Gurkha sticks. It should also arrive on the 3rd.

Tonight I'm having a Fuente 858 with some AAA 10 y/o.

Yesterday I had a Oliva Serie V Lancero

Tonight it was CAO Gold Maduro Corona

I prefer the Oliva. The CAO is not bad, just not as rich.

My orders arrived safe and sound. I am having a three finger pour of Devil's Cut with a Gurkha Titan. Great way to close out the night.
