Creggor
Hello, Tonight I had a graving for something a little sweeter than normal. So I cracked open a bottle of Jack Daniels Single Barrel. Right good stuff. Not Kentucky Bourbon but tasty none the less. Thanks, Creggor

hollywood
Creggor, JD Single Barrel is on my Top 10 list. Probably 10th. However, althougth a TN whiskey, it is the most similar to fine bourbons with its nose, taste, thickness, etc... Nice choice. See ya, H'wood
hollywood
Also, I guess it is not right at this moment, but last night my lady talked me into busting open one of my OFBB bottles. My back-up of back-up of etc.... We drank it neat in our new crystal snifters. Big, thick, medium rare rib-eye, and OFBB...Outstanding! jeff
Nice choice Tom. I had a Blanton's Last night at Nicholson's. It had been a while, but now I feel I must seek out another bottle.
ph0rk
Started with KC, moved on to Bakers. A nice change, for some reason i've been drinking Rare Breed since last saturday I can see why they charge more for Bakers than Knob Creek. (I don't know if its really a $9/750 ml difference though...) Congrats on the Blanton's, MurphyDawg (and the promotion) You are tempting me to open my bottle of Blantons. jeff
Booker's neat in my Rare Breed glass. All of this talk about Baker's has got me wanting a taste. I long ago finished my first bottle and have yet to restock. I think Booker's and Baker's are very similar in nose and taste. If I didn't know better I would say that KC and BH come from a different distillery all together. Mostly because I don't care for either of them
MurphyDawg
It may be a tad expensive (I paid $39), but it is bourbons version of Old Faithfull. It never lets you down. ! TomC
pepcycle
I share your confidence in Blanton's. I opened my newest bottle yesterday and sampled in your honor. Man, its just so reliable. Always great! Never a surprise or off-taste. BTW. Have you noticed that the little horses cast in the corks have letters. If you can find them all, they spell B-L-A-N-T-O-N-S. If you get them all, BT will send you a barrel stave to display them. Lets see that's $316 bucks for a barrel stave. Anybody have them all yet??? jeff
No, but I did see the set on display at the LB on Richmond road. Impressive, but Leslie wouldn't let me put it out anywhere in the house if I did get it She would probably leave me if I came home with 8 bottles of Blantons anyway
Paradox
I've got 3 of the letters, but geez, 8! I had seen on Blantonsbourbon.com about the letter thing a while back but where did you see about getting the display for them? bluesbassdad
A freshly opened bottle of Old Rip Van Winkle 10 year, 107 proof. (Funny thing is, I don't recall emptying the first bottle. I must have really enjoyed finishing it. BLEEEEE!)It's not quite as splendid to me today as I described it in my very first tasting, but it is definitely on my permanent must-have list. Since that fateful day when I described it as the German Shepherd Dog of bourbons (high praise, coming from me, suggesting strength, grace, balance, versatility, and dependability, among other virtues), I have discovered an appreciation for many other fine breeds (Rare and otherwise), many of which are associated with fowl, rather than canines. Now ORVW's charms seem more subtle than overwhelming, and that's not really a bad thing, now is it?Yours truly,Dave Morefield
Bob
A nice pour of Buffalo Trace. An enjoyable item from my favorite distillery! Keep 'em coming!Bob
MurphyDawg
All the bottlings on the shelf in my state store are from the same barrel on the same day with the same cork stopped (presumably from the same cases.). I bought the only two previous bottles of Blantons I had seen at the store (before the recent restock) myself. So, if everything were to fall into place perfectly I would have to buy seven cases & 1 bottle to get all the stoppers locally, thats roughly $3315 dollars for a barrel stave. . . .hmmmmmmm my wife isnt gonna like that. (I suppose I could shop around n all, but who wants to be reasonable when there are 85 bottles of Blantons calling your name ). TomC
pepcycle
Mark, Same as Jeff. I saw it in Liquor Barn in Lexington and asked. I'll see if they have any literature on it. Maybe Ken Weber can help you out. I'll PM him and get his input.
jeff
ORVW 10yo 107 proof. This might be the quickest I have ever finished off a bottle. Less than a week and only 1 drink left or so

bobbyc
I hate it when that happens. BTW are the letters at the bottom of the rear foot of the horse on one side only, in a little circle? I have an older bottle and don't know if this is something new or have they done it all along. It looks like a T in a circle on mine but may be a casting mark.( Would that have been a good name for a Bourbon?) GTS
Paradox
Hmmm Bobby, I don't think that they have done it all along... I think I know what you're talking about, but on the bottles with the letters yes, it is a letter (example T) with a circle around it in the rear foot... CL
I am drinking ORVW 10 yo tonite, also. However, I am taking it easy on the bottle because I can't get this in NC. I've had the this bottle open since July, but I have one more in the mini-boiurbon bunker. Speaking of finishing a bottle in a week, that's what happened to my first (and only so far) bottle of Stagg a couple weeks ago. Actually, it was less than a week before it was gone. Speaking of Stagg, I hit the mother lode. Apparently, WV still has some and I ordered some from a store near my parents'. My brother picked up the order for me today. Plus, while I was working on the WV order last week, I was working on a back-up plan with Sam's in Chicago, just in case. I called them yesterday about my open order made last week. They said they were going to get Tuesday (today) the last three bottles they could get. They said they would send them out to me as soon as they got them (well, to my parents' in WV because they can't ship to NC). But, they bottles are still not in hand, so who knows what will happen. If you don't have Stagg, it's ok to hate me. Almost Heaven, WV.
CL
I'll second that. I bought a bottle of it in Alabama over Thanksgiving. I was looking for the regular Old Fitz, but couldn't find any (100 proof or 1849). I saw the 12 yo, saw the $40 price and debated. But, I gave in because it was the only thing in the store I wanted that I could not get in NC.I was not impressed with it, either. I was expecting a better 1849, but it definitely was not that. But, I drank and shared most of it that weekend with relatives while playing poker. I still have some, but have not tasted it since. I really like Old Fitz products, so I will give it another taste. However, I don't see buying any more of when BIB and 1849 is more affordable.
Barrel_Proof
Now Mark has got us all concerned about the brands on our Blanton's horses!!! I'll never buy another bottle without looking at the damn stopper. I had to look, of course, and my whole corral is branded Circle A, even the Silver and Gold horses from Hong Kong duty free!!! Circle A must have been a cross-cultural band.
CL
Creggor, I'll be the first to say that we are all different and have different tastes. But, wow, I have to admit that you are bold for admitting mixing such a fine bourbon with Coke. (I may even wonder if you are pulling our legs.)I would think that you would chose a less expensive WT product for mixing. But, hey, like I said, we all have our own tastes and I sure as heck will not think badly of anyone who likes bourbon even if their tastes don't match up with mine. If there is one thing I've learned in my almost 42 years is that, if it makes you happy, do it no matter what others may think. Here's to ya!
