I had a side by side with VWFRR I and K before dinner yesterday. Big difference between them despite the fact that they are supposed to come from the same tank. ORVW 10/107 with the almond cake for dessert after dinner.

WTRB has been hitting the glass the past few evenings. Great for easing the daily aches and pains.

After months of working my way from drinking with coke, to a splash of water, to on the rocks, to a single cube, I've finally graduated to NEAT!!!!WWWWHHHHHOOOOOOHHHHOOOOOO!

Had a pour of Pappy 15 followed by a ORVW 10/90...sad when you're not getting a burn at 90 proof! :D

The only question is are YOU happy drinking it neat is it the way you like it best? That's whats most important drink your bourbon the way YOU like it best. If your happy with neat then welcome to the party and lack of liver, yellow is chic.

Very true...I have always wanted to be able to a least be able to see if I like it better neat or with a cube or on the rocks. Up until a couple weeks ago the sheer amount of alchol inn the bourbon really prohibited that. This is because up until about a year or so ago I was a beer drinker 100% of the time...big difference in a 4-7% alchol drink vs a 40-55% alchol drink. It really just took me some time getting used to that. Now that I'm there I can really appreciate the different styles of bourbon and the varying tastes and finishes. I guess time will tell whether or not I prefer it neat to on the rocks...I'm certainly going to enjoy the ride though! :)

I always drink neat, but last night it was rather sultry here in North Texas, so I had some Tom Moore BIB on the rocks. Or rather 3. I have been drinking TM neat for over a year and it was a whole new experience.

It toned down some of the cherry cordial flavor which I love about this bourbon and brought out more of the spices. Think I like it neat better but it was a nice change.

Elijah Craig 12 yo, neat.

I picked up this Elijah Craig 12yo last week and it has been haunting me since.

I know there has been some extreme differences of opinions concerning this bottle, not to mention EC18, but this particular bottle is the best EC12 I have ever had.

I have been drinking a lot of Parker's Heritage both the 2007 and '08 releases.

I don't know if that has influenced me or not but there are some similarities.

OK, I went back to the store where I bought it today because I remember there was only one more on the shelf so maybe it was from the same run.

They had about 6 or 7 on the shelf. I looked at the bottoms to see if one was different than the others and I took one.

But alas, it tastes different. It is hotter and lighter.

I checked out the bottom numbers on both bottles when I got home.

And yes I did drink some on the drive home, I'm sure you have deduced that by now.

So here it is, the awesomely great bottle has these numbers,....

top right-77

bottom left-42

bottom right-09

I'm going to look some more.

Had a small pour when I got home from work. A vatting of MM and Old Ezra 7 yr 101. Didn't do the trick. Switched to 91 Old Forester BIB. Ahhhhhhhh, much better. :yum: Joe

Started with a couple of Sweetwater Brewery 420's to quench my thirst, and now moving on to some BHC Weller Centennial.

Glayva. And yeah, I had some more tonight, about 1/3 G to 2/3 1792.

I've also tried mixing Drambuie w/bourbon, not much success - yet!

- just my luck they don't carry it on the Canadian side. All they have is Beam and Woodford.... they might as well be selling fruit baskets.

Coming back from Mortreal to NY I stopped at the duty-free shop and purchased three wonderful 200ml glass flasks - not of whiskey, but of super-grade maple syrup. The stuff mixes well with high-rye bourbons. At 1/4 syrup to 3/4 bourbon the taste is closer to ETL than JD.

A much better buy than whiskey or fruit baskets.

Decided to go sit on the front porch and took a '59 Old Forester BIB with me. Now I'm enjoying an '85 Henry McKenna. I don't have much of the OF left and it'll be sad sad day when I pour the last of it.

Had a small pour fo JB Black...first time I've had that neat...not too bad but definitely not as good as some of the others that are open on the bar. After that I switched over to ERSB and that was much better...one of my favorites!

I had 2 healthy pours of vatted old label Weller 12 and Weller Cent. I liked this vatting so much I vatted 2 half bottles of each a while back. Finished it off last night. I have plenty more of both to recreate this masterpiece.

I typically drink my bourbons neat and have never really been a fan of Makers Mark. Well, I went to UFC 101 this past weekend and went out for drinks aferwards in Philly with 3 of my cousins. They didnt have much good stuff at the bar we were at, but I did order a MM on the rocks and 3 more for my cousins. ON first sip, wow, harsh! I made a mistake, but over time the ice mellowed it out and it was a nice drink. My cousins all loved it. Asked me what it was 5 times. Definitely not a bourbon to have neat for me, but with the ice is pretty darn good!

On my travels this week, I pulled a nice haul of various dusties. Of those, were a few early tax stamped, Louisville, Rebel Yell 90 proofers. UPC 88508. Just outstanding, tonight. This is one fine bourbon, and puts the current iteration to shame. An exquisite nose. Caramel throughout. Some cherry. Chewy. Absolutely lip smacking. Label says: "Especially for THE DEEP SOUTH". Yahooooo!!!!! I love the back label, which has this little story: "Fourteen years before the great victory at Chickamauga, W.L. Weller founded our distillery and produced his first barrel of Bourbon. The whiskey in this bottle is made from the same Southern sour mash recipe that made his Bourbon famous." Hot Damn, makes me almost want to start whistlin' Dixie! :D
