One of the guys here at work went and bought a JB Black that was 'on special - with a few shot glasses' at lunch - not my favourite pour by a long shot but it's FREE and he thought it was a good purchase so i'm supporting him by drinking it... while at the same time educating him a little...

Just rolled back into the 517 from a KY-TN roadtrip.

More on that later.

Sipping some 2008 Four Roses Mariage, neat.

Having a pour of 08 ER17. It was a heck of a week. :smiley_acbt: I deserve it. Joe

Joe, I too am hitting the ER17. Also took a double of Handy 2007 to knock off the bottle.

Drinking at work, huh?

Sounds like a plan. We got some Jim Beam Black with watches. If you want a JB watch, let me know!

I opened, and we finished, a Hirsch gold foil UK import and a Dewars White Label from the 70s for my birthday.

The UK Hirsch was a -good- bottle. The Dewars was very nice. Of course, we sampled a bit from some of the open bottles sitting around, too ;)

Friday night I spent some time out on the deck enjoying the cool night air. The tree frogs were croaking away and the fireflies (or if you prefer, lightning bugs) sparkled in the bushes. A very contemplative moment.

Earlier in the evening, I spent some time with the neighbors. Their two girls are 5 and 3, and cuter than you can imagine. As the adults stood and talked the girls blew soap bubbles. Tori, the youngest, has big beautiful eyes and an infectious smile. When I asked her where she stood on health care reform she slapped me on my knee and just giggled. My inquiry as to what shefelt about cap and trade was met with a stream of bubbles in my face.

Kids can really supply us with a sense of perspective. Sometimes on a beautiful summer evening, nothing is more important than just enjoying life and blowing bubbles.

I reflected on this as I enjoyed a little Lot B before heading to bed.

John,

That's a nice heart warming story. Thanks for sharing.

Will

PS. I too have found that Lot B goes well in contemplative moments.

I had OC12 before dinner yesterday and WTRR101 after. Had hardly even tried the OC before. No typical BT bourbon to me. Sweet, relatively chewy and mild.

Every Friday we have a few pours after 4pm to talk about how the week went and to wind down and get the mind ready for the weekend. I might pass on the watch but appreciate the offer Scott!

Not today but last week in KY I had some 17yo 117proof from the barrel that will be Pappy 20 in a few years.

I met Mike Veach AKA bourbonv at Bourbon Bistros in Louisville for dinner.

He brought along the bourbon, it was the most amazing bourbon I ever had.

Julian Van Winkle gave him a 200ml of it. (Am I a name dropper or what? )

With a few drops of water it changed into something different every 10 minutes or so.

The day before in Lawrenceburg I told Jimmy Russell where we were going to dine, he suggested the Fried Green Tomatoes for an appitizer.

As always you can trust his taste.

Not much bourbon yesterday but at least 2 small pours late at night. WT AS and 12 export. 12 tasted better but the AS was ok as well that night, despite its lightness.

Had my first pour of ER 10/90 last night...WOW...I wasn't expecting to like it as much as I did. Now I'm a little pissed that I let that bottle sit in the cabinet for the last 6 months.

For all I know this might have been an off bottle...I hadn't had ER before and quite frankly I wasn't expecting much...I've had a number of pours from BT before but this was up there IMO with the first time I had Lot B. The longer and more bourbon I drink the more I realize how dangerous this hobby can become. I have a lot of bourbon's in the bunker that I haven't tried yet...they were all bought on recommendations from people here. They include: Blanton's SB, 1792, EWSB 1998, EC 12, FRSB, Pappy 20, RHF, ER 17 Fall 2006, Weller 12yr, BH, JDSB, OGD 114, and RR 10/90. I have about 14 bourbon's open on the bar so I'm trying to finish off some of those before I get into these.

Tonight I'm having some WT Rare Breed in a Glencairn glass. This is my first bottle of RB and I'm quite impressed. My favorite WT expression so far. I don't know why I haven't tried it sooner because even at $32 I'm finding it's a real value. I liked this one so much I bought another just to keep on hand. RB will probably hold a permanent spot on my little shelf.

I've also had the 80, the 101 (many times) and the Kentucky Spirit but I've yet to try the Rye or the Russell's Reserve.

Old Ezra 7 yr. 101. Always, a favorite. Tonight, even more so. Finishing up with an Eagle Rare 101. As it is usually for me, the Old Ezra is the tastier of the two.
