IronHead
I hit a couple of stores in search of a VWFRR for another member of the board. Instead I found myself a PVW 15. No luck on the VWFRR, though.

Ruby K
Geez Em, save some for the fishes!Actually, thanks to Joe's care package and a great find, I have picked up quite a haul in the last couple days: a frankfort Centennial, FR Mariage 2009, Woodford Seasoned Oak, ETL 90th, AAA, and today, I found a Willett pot still and (better) a 2007 Weller. BTW, if folks are interested in Four Roses 120th, WLW2007, or a Frankfort Weller, PM me...

p_elliott
I thought I would give WTKS another shot, last time I had preconceived notions of what I though it should be so I didn't like it. This time I'm letting it tell me what it is not what I think it should be and we're getting along much better.
tommyboy38
A successful trip to Binny's yesterday and I walked away with some JRPS, WT Tradition, a few repeal sets and a case of GTS. My wallet was $1100 lighter and my wife was there so she knows what we spent...she was trying her hardest to make me buy the ORVW23 also!!She's far too supporting of my habit which I can stop any time I want to. fogfrog
Fog, is that a McScrooge's Single Barrel 12 year? Or, the OWA?OK this bottle does not say single barrel anywhere on it and it does not even have a Mcscrooges sticker on it but I was under the impression it was their barrel... hmmm now I don't know. Also I don't know what is OWA. This is the twelve year old not the antique although I did get a bottle of the antique as well... which is the 107 vs the 90 proof 12 year old... fogfrog
okie dokie ... yeah I mean they had this huge display of Weller bottles as you walk into the store. They had a sign I thought indicating it was their whiskey and now: I googled Mcscrooges and this is what I found... google lead me to twitter which I scrolled and found this:# We just received our barrels of W.L. Weller 90 and 107, the original "wheated bourbon"...lowest prices in town. Guaranteed. 1:11 PM Nov 4th, 2009 from web OK so he says: OUR BARRELS... means to me he went and bought them and had them bottled for him... smokinjoe
Thanks, Fog. I know he did the NAS Old Weller Antique 107 barrel. It is really terrific. I have a couple. He must have done a regular Weller Special Reserve then, too, it sounds like. I haven't had one of those, as I'm really not a fan of the SR. Too boring IMO. But, because Brent (His Pappy 15 from a couple of years ago is my single favorite bottle of bourbon I have ever tasted) has made so many great picks over the years, I may grab one just to see if I can find anything to like. I was kinda hoping he had done a 12 yr. That one has kinda gone flat for me over the last couple of bottles. Probably more me than the whiskey, though. But, maybe we can talk him into doing one. funknik
Used some gift certificates to pick up some bottles on a trip to Boston this weekend . . . got a couple WT Rare Breeds, a OGD 114, two WT Rye 101 and a Wathen's Single Barrel (which I had never seen before).I was pretty stoked to get the WT Ryes since I only know of of one store that carries it and my wife was very cool about the long detour to get it. I'm also kind of excited about the Wathen's since I don't know much about it -- picked that one up at Federal Wine & Spirits next to Faneuil Hall in Boston. The owner, Joe, was a very knowledgeable whiskey dude and we had a nice little chat.

bourbon-n00b
Not sure if this qualifies me for "idiot of the year" or what, but I stopped in to a store I had never visited before. On the shelf, with a $199 price tag was a bottle of Parkers Heritage 2008. Had never seen one before and wasn't really up with what was what in the PHC series off the top of my head, but my impulsive thinking and my want to have a cornerstone bottle for my bunker got the better of me. Poking around some of the bourbon sites, seems like this one is a bit overpriced. Probably would have been better to hold off and use the money on some other stuff. Could have gotten 2 of the new Wild Turkey Tradition, 3 BTACs or enough standard bottles to keep me going for many, many months. Oh well, what's done is done. If this is the worst decision I make this year, I'll be doing ok.
