Grabbed a bottle of Mellow Corn for the boys, as we're heading into serious hockey and basketball playoff territory and I wanted to surprise my friends with something different.

Picked up a 2001 EWSB. I've had the 2002 and have a bottle sitting on my shelf so I'm excited to put them side by side to figure them out since I'm relatively new to tasting.

A stray bottle of WTRye 101 came home with me... that puts two in the bunker, and enough for a single manhattan left in my open bottle. I have lots of other ryes to check out, so it'll probably be a long while before I open this one.

I also picked up a bottle of ORVW 10/107, unusually found in a store that caters to a very large student market and keeps almost no top-shelf anything on hand.

Just some 4RSmB for the derby on sat., but boy did the RittBiB and a 2007ER17 cause an itch.

I picked up some goodies yesterday that made their way from KY back to ATL courtesy of a fellow SB.com member.

2 x FR 16 year (January gift shop bottle)

2 x FR 16 year (April gift shop bottle)

2 x Weller 12 (not available in Georgia)

1 x PVW 23

This will be the first Weller 12 that I've tried...I might need to open one up this evening!

A CASE of BT Cream! Damn! Karen is addicted to the BT Cream & Root Beer. I'll admit it is a guilty pleasure as well. I am a big fan of the RB cask. RHF is on my to try list.

Alright, I guess I'll share my pick-ups from Sampler weekend. I feel very fortunate to live in the land of Binny's, and have gathered over the last year or so that I've been on these boards that Binny's affords the Chicago area one of the best markets for whiskey (or perhaps alcohol in general) in the US if not the world. So although I like shopping for liquor wherever I am, it's rare that it's a step up from my everyday.

Well I found some nice ones in Bardstown and, later, Louisville. In Bardstown I picked up a CEHT Tornado for $68, which while better than the $75 I got it for at Binny's, is still above what I consider its value. Still, the bottle I've already had was very tasty, and I'm interested in trying one from a different distributor that may be from a different batch. I also feasted upon a FRLE1B '12 for $75 vs. the $80 Binny's commands (not to mention the almost 10% tax rate around here), and I'll also note that I haven't even seen this on the shelves quite yet. I'm sure it's due soon, but I figured it made sense to get a jump on it for cheaper than I'll ever find it here anyway.

Rounding out Bardstown were two bottles of HH BiB 6yo for around $10 each. I've read quite good things about this bottling. I'm very interested in experiencing more of what the HH profile has to offer, so I figured I'm in for a $10 experiment, and I might as well pick up a back-up should I like it, as it's not available in Chicago as far as I know.

I'll mention here also that I picked up 2 bottles from the FR gift shop, both 17yo OBSVs. There were two barrels (#8 and #9 since last November) available so I got one of each. I've sampled both, and it may go without saying, but they are more than worth their $57 price tag. MUCH more.

In Louisville I couldn't resist a bottle of WTR101 (it's disappeared from my regular Binny's shelves and from most shelves in Chicago in general) for $20 and I sprung for a Liquor Barn barrel of EC18 barreled 5/30/90 because it was barreled in the same month as one of my favorite 1B ever, the Binny's EC18 5/15/92. After the Gazebo my open bottle bar is too, too full to open another bottle, so I'll have to wait to clear out one or two before I crack this one, but I'm chomping at the bit!

Decided to stop by a store close to work where I sneaked out with their only VWFRR last fall. No VW of course, but did start their list for this fall...lol...if they get any. While there found a surprising stash of Saz Jr that was starting to gather a thin veil of dust...couldn't believe it. So, I had to clear them out of both since I find absolute zero in my other haunts. They all tell me none in sight til later in year. Anyone know any update from BT?

P.S. OOOPS! Just realized this should have been in the rye department of same thread name...sorry!

The HH 6 year BIB is a great cold bourbon as in put it in your frig and sip neat on a hot day. This of course deadens/smooths it a bit but results in a thicker, quite enjoyable, taste which you don't mind doing to it at its price point. Smokinjoe and Halifax would agree.

I go back and forth between the HH 6 year BIB and EW BIB as my fridge bourbon. Currently it's the EW BIB for me, which was left over from last summer. I didn't touch that bottle all winter but, with pool season here, it probably won't last much longer!

Picked up a wheated Vintage 17 today OT for this thread by two Ritt BIB's. Ritt BIB has been non-existent in NKY. I used to trip over the 21, 23 and 25.

Not bourbon for me either last night. A buddy handed me a glass of Redemption Rye and it was better than I had remembered. Nothing terribly complex but tasty just the same.

VOB 86 for all of 12 dollars at Liquor Barn in Lexington.

Quite honestly, it's better - IMHO - than 90% of the bourbons I buy day in day out regardless of price.

Picked up a bottle of regular buffalo trace for making mint julips tomorrow and my first wild turkey 101 rye. Should be a good weekend!

My local store received a case of EHT Tornado. That's the first I've seen in Colorado. Picked up 2 bottles at a very good price.
