smokinjoe
They do run together, don't they? I do recall you mentioning you had gotten a chance to try the Hooker House (bourbon?) from a bottle that Casey, formerly of Mac McGee's, had brought back from the Left Coast. Don't recall you mentioning Big Bottom before (at least not in the context of whiskey...) but that certainly doesn't mean you haven't tried it at some time in the murky bourbon haze filled past! That bottle from Mac McGee's is indeed the one I'm talking about. And, I think it could have been a rye... Either way, I do remember enjoying it. But, I tend to like this new segment of different wood finished rye and bourbon whiskies, in general.
GaryT
Did a comparison tasting of some older EB vs some newer EB. I have no idea how old the "older" is - they both are UPC 88352, but the older label says "Real Sippin Whiskey" and "Bottled by Ezra Brooks Distilling Co, St Louis, MO", where the newer label leaves off the sippin and claims "Distilled and Aged by Ezra Brooks Distilling, Louisville, Kentucky". Definitely have some similarity, but blind tasting found the older to be better by a few points. I found both to have a lot of butterscotch up front, but a better mouthfeel on the older - and maybe a bit more age. The older had a significantly better nose, despite being closer on the palate. Definitely hope to run across more of the older, although for the money - the current ain't bad.
393foureyedfox
finishing off the Charter 101 while making lasagna. i really really like this when i started it, but by the bottom 1/3 of the bottle, i decided it was kind of bland. i got this and some FC 103 at the same time, and the FC is still enjoyable.how many of you guys open something and enjoy it thoroughly, yet by the time its gone decide you probably wont buy it again? is this common. ive had it happen a lot. B.B. Babington
after laboring on labor day and missing the politico labor day parade that kicks off the election year (governors and such up this year), found a poor GTS begging to be put out of it's misery. I showed some mercy and went Kevorkian.

It's either air affecting the taste or other products trumping. I imagine it has to do with palette as well.

Passed through a couple of stores today and confirmed the Big Bottom was up front about being distilled in Indiana.
smokinjoe
Listening to the Georgia Tech Head Coach Paul Johnson 's radio show with a pour of OGD 114. If I didn't know better, I'da thunk GT lost...Coach ain't no ball 'o fire. Unbelievable that things are so bad for a team that just won 70-0... Kalessin
ER 10/101 to finish off a day spent in the library finishing up Statistics and Accounting homework.Back when I was in college, I found that my success at statistics was helped immensely by doing a huge number of extra problems using the Schaums Outline after finishing the assignments from the professor... and a nice glass of whiskey (scotch at the time) after math was done.Yesterday we had 20 people over a Labor Day barbecue. Before everyone arrived, right when I lit the charcoal on the grills, the skies opened up as a thunderstorm travelled through the region. The coals started, the rain stopped, friends arrived, and great quantities of food, beer and cider were consumed. After everything was done, including a ten-hour crock-pot brisket for later in the week, the heat and humidity were still crazy just after midnight, so I closed out the summer with Russell's Reserve Small Batch Single Barrel onto rocks. This was the end of the bottle, and I'll miss how well it suited me poured onto rocks through the hot days of summer. Not sure if I'll pick up another just yet; must see if Rare Breed has the same magic. Edited September 3, 2013 by Kalessin

GaryT
Started with a little Larceny, which was nice - but wasn't quite hitting the mark. Staying in the wheater vein - poured a healthy dram of SB Blend - and couldn't be happier :yum:
