Old Dusty
The SB blend is popping up all over the 'net now as "Poor Man's Pappy" or my favorite "Trailer Park Pappy". Complete with blending tips and guidelines. But I still don't get the comparison to 15/107. That seems to be the target expression but approximating the 10/107 combining a 12 yr 90 and a 5/6 year 107 makes for a better comparison IMO. In other words the SB blend is poor man's Old Rip. MyOldKyDram
Yeah I saw this all over twitter yesterday. Was kind of surreal.
brettckeen
I expect more than a few stores are pushing W12 as 'the other Pappy'.
tylermke
They did, then they sold it all, now they can't get any more. Chicago is on a Weller rations.Saw a bunch in Chicago this past weekend. Even a handle of it to boot. It was a little higher priced than I've bought for previously, but not outrageous. The same store had two bottles of Michter's Celebration LE and a Hirsch humidor. As you can imagine, I don't think they will be finding a new home anytime soon.
callmeox
Yeah I saw this all over twitter yesterday. Was kind of surreal. Is it common for people to take ideas from here and present them as their own elsewhere?
393foureyedfox
Is it common for people to take ideas from here and present them as their own elsewhere?there are so few original ideas anymore........just look at hollywood. When was the last time you saw an 'original' movie idea. Ive gotten to where I refuse to watch any remakes, which means, I dont watch many new movies anymore. TV is worse. Music seems to be worse than that....I swear people are de-volving (put the radio on a pop, or better yet - a hip hop station and see what i mean), and even becoming lemmings (think: pappy hysteria).... Variable
Is it common for people to take ideas from here and present them as their own elsewhere? When it comes to the SB Blend, I am afraid so. I have seen posts about the SB Blend on twitter and a couple of blogs recently.

Thanks, that's what I was looking for. I guess that with the proliferation of bourbon bloggers on the internet, they have to get their information somewhere. There is nothing we can do if this site is the source of their "expertise".

squire
Yeah, I did a google search on a question a week or so back and StraightBourbon was the first reference that came up. Of course when I clicked on it I found one of my own posts from about eight years ago.

squire
I don't read bloggers, or other opinion speakers for that matter, unless I like their writing style. Originality is rare, thousands have tried to copy Mark Twain or William Faulkner but we don't remember their names.
weller_tex
I really don't like the very young profile of current OWA and WSR. Weller 12 is the only BT whiskey I buy. Still love it, really love it....but am aware that BT will take it away at any moment to give it to PVW stocks so g^^^%% f&^%$ b&^%$ who just collect bourbon but don't drink it can buy it. Oboe Cadobro
I just split a case from Internet Wines & Spirits. IMO the Weller 12 is one of the great values in bourbon today, great for mixing, and even good for sipping. This will probably be gone by mid-2014, so get yours now if you gotta have it! weller_tex
All of the most popular bloggers get their info here. That's why I've quit reading most of them. The only reason to read other blogs now is to see their tasting notes. My personal tastes line up more with a couple of people from this site though...I really enjoyed Jason Pyle on Sourmashmanifesto but I think he is in semi retirement from blogging
buoy37
..but feel I should start buying up the Weller 12 when I can.I buy one here and there to keep in my "time capsule" closet. My Mom was a Weller "sipper" in the 80's. I wish she still had a bottle or two laying around.
rutterb
I saw 3 or 4 bottles out in the county where I live. No need to pick one up since I currently have two. Cannot be found anywhere in Nashville.
