What bourbon are you drinking - Fall 2013

had a teeeeny sip of KC120 last night. finished off the remnants of a HH 6 BIB the other night, so now i only have KC120, Ritt BIB, and a larceny here. I dont like the larceny and keep it for company, and the Ritt i am undecided on.....

i have enough KC120 to last me years, so i am holding off any more purchases until something really interests me. if i ever find a Willett 6 or 8 year, that'd prompt me. anyone know when the next batch gets released? all i see is 4 year rye everywhere

I was at a bar in Chicago last weekend that seems to cater to the craft beer crowd, looked to have a good but not great bourbon selection. Then I spied an Elijah Craig 18 over on the side. That one surprised me. Ordered some, $12 for a fairly hefty pour. Not bad for something you can't really find any more. That was the highlight of my weekend bourbon drinking.

A good weekend for bourbon. Popped the cork on a 2009 4R BP Private Selection OESQ. Also took in an EC12 private selection that I didn't quite care for as much as the regular offering. Also tastes of JPS 21, HW Bourye and some Pappy 15 to finish it off with friends.

Last night I had my wife pour me a blind test of 1.) Four Roses Private Selection 100 proof OBSV 2.) Four Roses Private Selection Barrel Proof OBSK 3.) Four Roses Private Selection Barrel Proof OESK and 4.) Four Roses 2013 Single Barrel LE. Favorite of the night was the OESK. Just for fun I tried to guess what was what after I was finished and I nailed it so at least I don't feel like a total idiot

A healthy pour of Weller 12, neat. Not quite sure why this bourbon gets mixed reviews here on SB, I think it is mighty tasty. I will be buying more of this as my bottle runs down. An excellent QPR bottling.

Nice line up. Could you tell much difference between the LE and the PS OBSK?

I didn't think I would be able to because the PS was aged over 11 years so there is less than a 2 year difference between the PS and the LE (both are OBSK for those unaware) however, I did pick up more oak from the LE as well as a longer finish. I preferred the LE just slightly but the PS was only $54 so if you factor in the price difference it's hard to say. One other note, the PS is 108 proof and the LE is 120.2 proof. Would be interesting to lower the LE to the same as the PS and see what happens.

After getting the thumbs up from some fellow SBers, I picked up a bottle of FRSB 2013 LE. I opened it as soon as I got home, and am having a pour. The label says "57.7% warehouse B5 barrel 3-2B". It's good, but I'll have to have a few more tastes before giving any detailed notes. In some ways, it's similar to regular FRSB, in some ways different. I know this uses a different yeast, and is older, more proof ...

Not many choices at this bar so going with Baker's. Finding a TV to watch the Cardinals on was more important than selection. Bigger TV and bigger selection at home but that's at least a 2 inning drive.

Stick around long enough RT and you will see just about every whiskey get mixed reviews here. Don't believe in any SB consensus...other than getting together twice a year in Kentucky:grin:. Glad you like it. My own specific mixed review is that sometime after 2008 bottlings it became slightly more sooty, thin, even wood astringent and this all having no place to hide because of its lower proof and wheat soft profile.

While I agree with Thad about W12, I think we are the only two active members who feel that way. The vast majority of SBers enjoy W12 very much. You are in good company RT-fan.

I agree totally what Thad said about W12. My first try of this bourbon, was in Houston probably 4 yrs ago. Really disappointed, found it sooty, and astringent. Still do. I do buy it regularly though, for the SB blend

I like it, but not nearly as much as I once did. Definitely best served in the SB Blend.

I have been off the bourbon wagon for a while, but now that the weather is cooling off I am getting back on. So to celebrate a crappy Monday I am having a little ORVW10/107. Love this stuff...

I just had a small pour from my very first batch of the SB blend which I made at a 50/50 ratio. It's only been "marrying" for about a week so it needs more time but so far I'm impressed. I may have to order a few more bottles of W12 to make sure I have sufficient stock!

I guess I'll have to start chiming in here, being that I drink a few glasses (only a 1/3 full!) of bourbon EVERY SINGLE NIGHT! Never the same one twice. Tonight I started with a nice pour of EHTBP that I just picked up. A strong one at 135.4 proof, but damn good and damn smooth after a few drops of water. A nice, thick, chewy finish. Really like it. Now, at the other end of the proof spectrum, I am sipping some Watkins Select. Another one that has a pleasant finish. I like this stuff. Ok, gotta' get back to drinkin'.

Stagg Jr. and George Dickel barrel select. Both good. Wainting for Stagg SR. hope some gets to Ca. Last year left out. Good thing I have bunkered from previous years

A little Larceny mixed with apple cider, ginger beer, and a shake of apple pie spice. I generally like my bourbon neat but during the Fall I like something a little seasonal.
