BFerguson
After the start with HHSS, went to a bit of PHC golden-this one just gets better and better each time, and then finished the evening with some Hirsch 22yr rye. Was quite the good night.B
gooneygoogoo
Last night I had a very interesting blind tasting. Two separate OBSK barrel proof private selections. Both 11 years, 2 months, both bottled in June 2013. Both from warehouse DN. Barrel numbers 37-2D and 37-1C...so one was virtually on top of the other. Obviously these were very similar but there were some significant differences. I just found it interesting that the same exact recipe, age etc. could have such detectable differences. Oh, one of the bottles I got in GA (112 proof) and the other from KY (108 proof).
GaryT
After several days off, returned to my SB Blend taste-off. Good thing I'm not a betting man Again, I found I preferred the 70/30 over my 60/40 (which I've loved for years). On the nose, the 70/30 comes off as creamier, and reminds me more of "dusty bourbon" than the 60/40 (which is similar, but with more burnt sugar on the nose, and a bit sharper). The palate was similar to the nose. Both seemed a bit more sharp than I recall (maybe a result of a few days off?), but I found the 70/30 to be more balanced between that sharpness and the sweet. This was a very close race, so believe it is now time to make a proper vatting of the 70/30 (and top off the 60/40).

BigRich
A few different pours last night as I unwound from a crappy day over some cards with friends. Mostly it was Larceny and a local 4R barrel selection.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
mosugoji64
Mrs. Mosugoji and I have been celebrating for the last couple of days for our 13th anniversary and my new nursing job. Last night, I pulled out the HHSS and '12 WLW and enjoyed generous pours of each. Tonight will likely see something special as well! Crowes
Enjoying the golf and a first pour from a Barrel Strength Four Roses Single Barrel (OESO). First time trying this recipe with the fruity yeast and it's absolutely delicious. Rich and creamy, such a great mouthfeel. Ripe red fruits with a nice spice on the back palate. Awesome stuff. mosugoji64
did you just graduate? I too will be nursing job seeking in a few months, after I graduate. Congrats!
393foureyedfox
Thank you, guys! Doug - actually graduated in spring and got licensed over the summer. Didn't start looking for a job right away since we were relocating. I've been on the job hunt for the past 4 months and can only say that I hope the market is better in your area. It's BRUTAL for new grads here. The job I finally got wasn't at all what I wanted but it's experience. Congrats to you as well and good luck in your search! Red One
Just poured my first dram of OFBB and had to add quite a bit of water to make it enjoyable; guess this bottle needs to open up a bit. Probably move on to some ETL neat to follow.
whiskeyagonzo
Just sat down for the evening with some 2013 GTS. Seems like it might be a barrel proof night.
BFerguson
Had some Jeff Ocean second release at the whiskey monger today. I'm glad I passed on the bottle that he offered me earlier last week. Unremarkable young whiskey, a bit tannic and fresh cut oaky-ness prevails through anything else. It's not bad, but it not much either.Marketing at it's finest.B

393foureyedfox
HH6BIB tonight, I had nothing last night. I took a fresh bottle of it to a friends house last week and noticed it seemed hotter/harsher than my open bottle at home. My open bottle at home is less than half full, and thought maybe the air time helped it, so I left the lid off of it the past 2 days. Not much different, but this 1/3 full bottle is better than the freshly opened one, for whatever reason.Today was $50 day at the junkyard. Being a car nut, this is like Christmas to me. $50 for whatever you can physically carry 50 feet. And I can carry a lot. Part of the fun is seeing how much you can mule out. Needless to say though, Im feeling it. Might need a few more pours.....
Yeti
Followed GTS '11 with GTS '13. The 11 wins hands down, but 13 is still a nice pour with a splash of water.
