Not buying it, so I'll go with Old Blowhard.

Heavy, bitter, woody.

Edit the more I drink it the more I enjoy it.

Parkers Heritage 3rd.

edit holy crap this is good

Great way to spend an afternoon!

I went to Whiskey Street last night. It's a new bar, and is the closest thing SLC has to a high end whiskey bar. My drinks were on an expense account, so I tried the 2013 Stagg. I liked it well enough, but it wasn't spectacular. Very BT-y.

Not bourbon, but Mellow Corn....two fingers. A pleasant marriage of oak, corn and spice. Definitely better than 'shine.

Man its been a while...starting a new job keeps you busy.

Lately I have had first experiences with Four Roses Small Batch, AAA, Eagle Rare, Very Old Barton 6yr, and Four Roses Single Barrel.

Loved them all, EXCEPT the AAA. Im not sure what it was, but the taste did not appeal to me. Can anyone tell me other bourbons that come from the AAA family?

Also, what other bourbons come from the Barton tree? I would love to try more of that family.

some Dickel 9 year. havent had any in a while.

for a split second at first sip I thought I finally understood the vitamin reference, but as soon as I thought that, it went back to my initial impression of "sooty". So different from every other bourbon I have here, but some nights it is just the best thing ever. Not sure if tonight is one of those nights though. Its a peculiar drink, fo sho.

Have you had any Weller 12 yet, Doug? You might like it if you like the sootiness of the Dickel.

I tend to enjoy each year of the EWSB releases, but this 2004 I'm sipping tonight is one of the better ones. Big traditional HH profile in it, and that makes me happy.

I had it at a valentines dinner with Mrs Fox last month, that's the only time. I never see it in the stores. I had a flight that night with W12, Bernheim, and RR90. Of the three, Id rate them W12, RR90 and Bernheim. "Sooty" isnt anything I picked up on in W12.

it wasnt one of those great nights for Dickel 9, so I switched to Bookers. Thats not really doing it either, so Im just gonna crash. 12 hour night shift last night has thrown me off a bit

Weller 12 here tonight.

Not sooty tonight, but more old church wood and incense.

Sadly, it gave its last tonight and is hitting the bin.

The SB blend is hitting on all cylinders tonight! Probably somewhere near a 60/40 (that I keep dinking around with so that the bottle never goes dry).

Old Medley 12 yr tonight. The first couple pours of this were underwhelming and I thought I had wasted my money. Tonight it was working better for sure, but still need more time with it. I may end up liking this.

Finished the last of an OFBB13 bottle that had only been opened for about 5 months though spent most of its life at least half empty. Unlike most bottles that improve with a little air, even over time (6-12mo), this bottle got worse the longer it sat. At the end, the sticky sweet caramel and vanilla bean aroma had been replaced with charred oak and the flavor was thin and astringent. When I open the next one, I will transfer it to a normal shaped bottle to see if that slows the degradation.
