That's a normal retail price for EC21... The others, not so much, but those still aren't totally insane.

Maybe normal but when you could and on occasion still find EC18 for $50 or less, the price tag on the EC21 seems a bit much.

Booker´s 25th at $150, and Jeff Ocean at $90. Just too expensive IMO for what they are.

Jefferson Ocean at $90 here as well. Not worth it for me at this time, but it's out there if others are interested.

Been passing up all of the Jeffersons in my stores recently. They seem to be all over the place with all of their variations.

Very thoughtful store manager called me to say they got 3 bottles of Booker's 25th Anniversary and he would hold one for me, but the $125 shelf tag results in a $154 purchase after taxes. Ouch. I had to pass.

Dayuuum. Your taxes are worse than what we have in Illinois. :skep: Hard to imagine that.

That's only half the story. If all the taxes are added up (about half is buried in the distributor and retailer transactions), it's in the 57-62% range for median priced bottles.

Some of the Bowman Double Barrel for now. At $70 it's hard to justify for 7 YO bourbon before tasting.

Also some ridiculous super young Cleveland "bourbon" using some instant aging technique.

I passed on some EC18 at $65. Distilled 1990. Looks like it's been on the shelf a while.

I didn't used to buy it at $50. Not sure why I'd feel like buying it at $65, other than curiosity.

Also some EWSB 1997. That I may go back for....

What was that movie saying...something about follow the money. From the NY Times on June 24 of last year:"Today, flavored whiskeys are the fastest-growing segment in the bourbon industry. According to Nielsen research provided by Beam, in 2012 flavored whiskey accounted for nearly 75 percent of growth among all whiskeys, and 42 percent of growth in bourbon."

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/06/26/dining/flavored-whiskeys-expand-the-market.html

And most of that growth is fireball and the honey variations.

Those benchmark flavors cannot be considered whiskey because they are in fact liqueurs that share a brand name with a bourbon. For the time being, fireball still has whiskey in it.

Passed on Jeff Ocean for $79. First sighting for me here in Alabama and haven't seen anything posted here that would make me stray from my proven pours that I could get 2-3 bottles of for same or less.

Passed on Barterhouse at $82 at my local shop this evening. Just can't get jazzed up about the Orphans.

I'm pretty sure this is the second release. Hopefully this sits on the shelf for a long time.

I paid that much for the last bottle I found a couple of months ago, and it's the last bottle I've seen. As we're fond of saying around here, YMMV, but it's worth it to me. As for the EWSB, that's one of my favorite years but it's a bit different from others due to being made at Beam. You should give it a try.
