Crowes
I tried a new one this weekend that I really liked, not sure if it has been mentioned here before. I did 80% OWA, and 20% ER10. Reall , really nice. Brought the proof down just a smidge, rounded out the harsher notes of the OWA. I just did a few glasses as a test, and didn't let it rest for very long. I'm definitely going to try a full bottle vat now.
sutton
One of my Favs that came out of this mentality-- AAA10yr/Stagg jr. 70:30 Wow just fantastic. Thanks Don - nothing wrong with experimenting, I do it myself with no more thought behind it other than boredom. And this suggestion is one that I hadn't thought of, but can see how this could really work. I have some AAA10yr, and at times it seems it needs a bit of something. I was looking for a reason to buy a Stagg Jr., this could be it. Cheers!
dSculptor
Been having this controversy with myself over RB12 & GS (Green Spot) which one do I like better? They both are excellent I think the GS edges out the RB12 by a hair, So..... I did it...vatted them 1:1...I must say these play together well! I immediately mixed up a 200 ml batch of it..the best of both worlds in one. I love it when a plan comes together! A must try if you got 'em....And Mark, I totally agree with you on the AAA10 yr. just seems a bit flat to me. It's definitely one of my "fillers" or bases for my vats. Not sure I can make myself do that to either of them!

HD 335
My Four Roses barrel proof vat didn't work out well. Even parts 12 year 2 month OESV, 9 year 7 year OESF and 9 year 5 month OBSK. Came out to be a super candied corn taste.

Paddy
A cheap/easy try would be Larceny. Maybe a Weller, but there sure is a lot more of the Larceny around nowadays.

dSculptor
I've never tried the Baby Saz... might be time too. We did a vat of some OF 1849 and OF 12 last night these 2 play very well together.I think I prefer the Of 1849 over the 12. Much better nose for me. dSculptor
Tried an interesting one last night: KC/AAA10 yr. with a touch of WFR 5 yr. The first 2 were very good on their own, but wanted to add a bit more proof so went with the WFR. I have to say, quite tasty(of course don't think I ever had a bad one, just keep adding till it gets there). Ratio was 125ml/125ml to 50 ml of the WFR. Vadertime
I think I read somewhere on SB.com that someone has a very good vatting of WT101/MM/4RYL. I can't find the post anymore though. Anyone have any feedback on this? Also, I would imagine that GlenMorangie 10 would make a good Scotch/Bourbon vatter. Anyone play around crossing the Atlantic?Cheers
amg
Is it time to start a "vatting thread 2015" or just rename this one?I'm currently sipping on a 60/40 Larceny/4RSB vat that I mixed up about a week ago. It's tasty but I don't think I like it as much as either of its components.
Tony Santana
Felt like experimenting tonight, a few that were just okay, but two I really liked. 5 parts OFBB13, 4 parts Barterhouse, 2 parts WFE 10 year. Really good. Then a 60/40 blend of MWND and VOS19. Just kind of threw that one together at the end, but the oakiness of the VOB balanced out the sweetness/port/fruitiness of the MWND. Thought it was a terrific pour.

Tony Santana
VOS 19 = SA Very Old Scout 19 year old. I said VOB in the second part of my post, but that was wrong. Maybe had a few too many samples by the time I was typing that. VOS 19 is a dusty now, very nice pour, I get a bold caramel as the predominant flavor, but there is a fair amount of oak presence. The Weller 12 is just fine. Was lucky enough to score a second bottle, not too much showed up in our fine state. That said, I'm not quite sure why people go crazy over it. A solid pour/fine bourbon to be sure, but nothing spectacular, and when the price starts creeping into the $30's one has to wonder whether there aren't better alternatives.GO PACK! R-Savage
Alright Just made my little recipe. In my opinion. This is great I think Less EWB maybe 30 / 70 Mixture and this would be perfect. I must say. Very Nice for a first attemptThe aroma is very mild, some the sweetness of the EWB has been taken away, and the silky creamy texture of the 4RSB has snuck in. THis is a must try at 50/50The Recipe1 oz Evan Williams Black, with 1 oz of Four Roses Single Barrelafter the second and third sips.... Very Nice. GaryT
So . . . I am on the brink of having all 10 Four Roses recipes, and of course my first thought is "What are the vatting possibilities?"I've got 3 in mind I want to start on this weekend:1) All 10 in equal proportions (likely a "micro vat", using like 6 mL of each which gives me about a 2 oz vat)2) All OB recipes in equal proportions (similar approach, 10mL each)3) All OE recipes in equal proportions (ditto)I know the combinations and ratios are truly endless. I want to make these three and then blind taste to see which I like the best, and start tweaking from there. What vats would you make if you had (or if you have!) all 10? jaycamm
Reportedly, Yellow Label is a blend of all 10 and Bulliet a blend of the five high rye recipes. So could make barrel proof versions of those. Or maybe try to replicate some of the limited edition small batches.
