bearmark
Just had my first Founders KBS (2014) and I'm really impressed. This is a fantastic stout!
Ravensfire
Time to celebrate the Cards (limping) into the playoffs winning the division. Split a North Coast barrel-aged Old Rasputin and a Perennial Savant Brett with some friends. The Savant Brett in particular was quite delicious. Alas, it was a special release and I only had the one. Conquistador
Still waiting for autumn weather to fully kick in (we've been getting temps 10 to 20 degrees above normal), but since last night was a "cool" one (in the 70s), I decided to o with the 2014 Firestone Walker Velvet Merkin that I just picked up. Bourbon barrel-aged oatmeal stout. Very nice caramel and vanilla notes. Not overly boozy, but the barrel does add a nice hint of oak. I can't wait for consistently cooler weather. AaronWF
Oh man, I found myself at The Aviary in Chicago last night and opted for their Aviary/Evil Twin collaboration beer aged in a Clynelish barrel. Hhhnngggnnn hhhhhhuuuuuu, really really good. It's a Belgian strong ale with a blonde color. It was a little closed off the first few sips; refreshing with a great body but nothing jumping out at me. As the beer warmed, though, the most delicate fruit notes emerged. They did a series of this beer aged in 10 individual barrels of whisky, whiskey, brandy, rum and tequila. You can taste them on their own or opt for the cuvèe. The cocktails at the joint are not to be missed but you're doing yourself a disservice if you skip the beer.
