Was hoping to track down some of the new Longrow Red Port finished but no luck. Settled for a Longrow 14yo Burgundy finish and an earlier Longrow Red finished in Cabernet as consolation prizes.

I'm picking up a bottle on Saturday...PM me if you want me to grab a second and ship to you. I'm in Chicago.

That is an extraordinarily generous Christmas present!

Merry Christmas to all the SBers holding down the Foreign Whisky subforum!

Yeah, she was actually quite excited to give it to me. Had some this evening, a tremendous pour. Dangerously drinkable.

Nice gift Tony, Have you had the green spot yet? Just curious how it compares ?

Nope, never had the Green Spot, so can't make the comparison. The Yellow Spot was good enough that I may have to track one down for a sbs. You know, for the sake of research.

A different whiskey to be sure but the Green Spot is worth a try and available in the States, unlike the Yellow Spot. Continue to be rumors about other "Spots" becoming available in the near future, probably for a small but exorbitant fee and probably as hard to get as the Yellow!

Nice little dusty haul yesterday. The Clynelish is under the Whisky Galore line, which used to be a Duncan Taylor brand. I cracked the Laphroaig last night and found it very drinkable, if not a bit mild on the distillery character. Still better than the recent OBs which show bad wood IMO. Very excited to try the map bottle Tali!

Older bottles of Talisker (especially if they are at older prices!) are always a pleasant find. Doesn't a 10yo in a green bottle may suggest a bottling date in the 90's or at least early 2000's.

Snagged some Canadian Club Chairman's Reserve 100% Rye and Ninety 20 Year Old Canadian Rye Whisky, both (as I understand it) only available in Canada. The CC is interesting enough I thought about making a second trip across the border for another bottle, but after factoring in the fees ($10 US round trip, plus gas, time, etc) think I will pass. The Ninety 20 yr old was on clearance ($35), and I'm happy with it for that price, but I wouldn't pick up another.

Not too hard to find around here, I believe in the $50-$60 range. I like the green, quite tasty. I also just acquired a bottle of Jameson 12 yr. ..that's not bad stuff either, some day maybe I'll spring for their 18 yr.

Nice grabs Aaron. That baby come yet? If not, shoot for Monday! My 3rd was born 12/29/12.

Well happy birthday to yours! No action here yet. Been a painstaking last few weeks. When the doctor's orders to get the baby out is the same thing that got it in there in the first place, you know the end is nigh...

Balvenie 15 single barrel (old version) for $63.99. Why should be fairly self evident . . .

Wow, that's a great deal.

Picked up a two-label-versions-old (2004-2007ish?) bottle of The Peat Monster. Lots of dust on the top of the box. $49.99

Checked the codes on the bottle and it looks like this is a 2006 bottle! Pretty cool find.

Completed my first potentially risky foreign transaction of buying 2 bottles of Port Askaig 19, since it is on special at The Whisky Exchange for 25 GBP off. I'm a complete and total sucker for teenage cask strength (probably) Caol Ila, so I don't see how this can possibly go wrong. Assuming I end up with the Whisky. They guarantee Customs clearance, so we'll see . . . If this works out, I believe I see a future involving MoM Drinks by The Dram

Purchased Macallan Rare Cask. Had a friend just have a baby, another just made partner. Waiting to get together and open her up and try it out.

I ordered numerous times from MOM & WE and never had a problem - probably 15-20 times. I like MOM because they use FedEx and its easier to redirect the package than UPS, which I believe is what WE uses. The drinks by the dram offerings are great - I received the whisky advent calendar last year and the premium whisky advent calendar this year. They are fantastic. The only problem with ordering online from these places is controlling yourself because its just too easy. I wish we could have something like this domestically. Have fun.

The other problem is that shipping has now gotten so damned expensive so that they are able to make those customs guarantees. Seems like it doubled or tripled from just a couple of years ago. Pretty much wipes out any savings on VAT and then some. Used to place the occasional overseas order but now I would really have to want it to do so I think.

But I never had a package that didn't get through. Occasionally they get here as fast as something coming from in the US!

Due to the sale, my cost ended up converting to about $254. I think I ended up paying 33 or 40 GBP for the shipping, but the total cost is reasonable due to the sale. $127ish each for two bottles of a highly rated cask strength (probably) Caol Ila 19 yrs of age? Sold! That's at least $60 a bottle cheaper than I've found for anything similarly aged in the US. I don't know if they will compare to SMWS A Calmack Ferry Dram, but Serge gives the 19 Cs an 88, and I rarely dislike things he rates that highly.

I wasn't sure if my cc company would charge foreign transaction fees so I went ahead and used one that waives them.

Bought a bottle of Compass Box Spice Tree. Phenomenal stuff. I love this.

Yes, another good CB offering I need to dig out more often. I got to try the original against this new version a while back and in a blind SBS and preferred the original but this one is pretty close!

Glendronach 15 Tawny Port finish.

Since it is not your traditional, all-sherry Glendronach, it is a bit different. Hazelnut on the nose, less pronounced Sherry sweetness. Very nice, very little oak, sweetness throughout, but a good bit less than the 15 yr. Revival. This was a brand-new offering from one of my local guys. 46% abv.

What is the cost compared to the 15 Revival in your area? More, less, about the same?
