I haven't seen this Indy but would like to try it.  I like 1792 ok but think the higher proof might make it better.

Got a Blantons Gold today. I drank my 2013 bottling too fast, I will slow down for this new one.

not today but in the last week or so I got a couple of bottles of Hancock's Reserve, couple of Evan Williams Distillers Select crocks, a bottle of VOSF 12 from the gift shop, and a case of Belle Meade Barrel Select and Strength 9 yr that I've been enjoying a few bottles of for the past several months

Brought home a bottle of Stagg Jr batch 4 (132.2).  I was surprised that it hung on the shelf this long.  Good for me.  :)

I wonder how the price compares with Smooth Ambler?  I see the SA 99 proof bottles are now around $50.

4 EW BIB, and 2 Mellow Corn

EW BIB is really good

It is $74.99 at V&T. I have seen it a little cheaper but the price is the holding point.  I can still pick up SA 8 or 9 year old Cask Strength for $49.99.  I also see 8 year old OKI for $45.99.  As Bruce points out, it would be interesting to see how MGPI puts together whiskey they bottle under their own label.

I got a taste of the Russell's Reserve Single Barrel and I had to take one home.  I think it's the most interesting, complex and tasty bourbon I have ever had.  Am I over reacting on this?

Impossible for us to know without a taste and the knowledge of what else you've had, but RRSB can be quite good. If you happened to get a honey barrel, it would not be surprising that you might think it's the best you've had.

1792 port finish for $45 plus tax. More than I wanted to spend but I am curious to try it and hadn't heard that they were going to do a sequel of it.

I don't think the port finish made it to Minnesota. Haven't seen it and would love to try it

Wife picked up an EC12 for me. Can't  argue with that!

Nice David. As others here have said (myself included) when someones spouse does something like that, "She's a keeper." :D

Cheers and enjoy!

Had plans to work around the house today but a tree fell on a power line nearby and put us without power for about 6 hours. So what to do.........go bourbon shopping of course. I went to one of my favorite stores that's out of the way which prevents me from getting there too often. Though they don't get the limiteds, they usually have something interesting that other stores around here don't get. They did not disappoint this time. The other thing I love about this place is that if you buy 3 or more bottles you get a 10% discount, so I always stock up.

I was happy to find a Hancock's, which nobody else around here ever seems to get. I picked up an Ezra Brooks 12yr for $37. (The rumor of it's demise has led to the jacking up of prices elsewhere). 4RSB for $39 (it's up to $47 or more most other places) and an ER10 for $28 (which is actually going to be a birthday present for a friend). But I didn't stop there. I picked up a Bulleit for mixing. Don't care for it neat (it's fine, I just don't seek it out), but I'm trying to get my boulevardier recipe figured out and the last one I had that I really liked was made with Bulleit. (Aside: just made one and it turned out great, so Bulleit appears to be the secret ingredient.) Lastly, I bought a handle of BT. First time I've ever purchased one of those big boy bottles. BT is scarce around here at the moment and with that 10% discount, the handle was a steal.

Very inspirational post Steve!  I don't always lose power to my home, but when I do...

I just returned from a week long road trip up the east coast and through New England.  Many liquor stores were visited and more than a few bottles made it home.  They are:

OWA (2), EHTSB, RHF, OF1897, AE Rye, and Whistle Pig Rye

No ECBP to be found, but a successful trip in whiskey terms.

This got opened during the GBS St. Paddy's event this past weekend and tried by a few people before we got too deep into the Irish. General consensus was that it had a decent nose (as I recall) and opened with some sweetness on the palate but did not manage to go anywhere from there with an unremarkable finish. A bit disappointing but it was a newly opened bottle so further investigation is warranted.

Thanks for sharing that Bruce.  As a Hoosier, I'm interested in what MGPI does.  I've enjoyed several versions of their rye and some of the single barrels of bourbon SA got from them.  I think it would be great if they released some age stated bonds (bourbon and rye) and put it in a regular bottle too.  When I saw the thick base to that Metze bottle, I knew it meant $$$.  Thank goodness I can live vicariously through some other SBers.  I'm a bon vivant raising a baby.
