Sitting out by a fire and burning some meat on this beautiful afternoon with a great glass of Weller 12y.

That pit is awesome, I think I am going to put something like that together.

My oldest son and his wife came over for a little grillin' and chattin.'  They drank wine and I drank bourbon.  Enjoying some Baker's.  I haven't had it in a while and it is tastin' good.  Notice I dropped all the endin' "g's" just because I could.  :D

Ran into this as I look through my bunker, an older Baker 107 so openned it.

For the newer ones, I think I had tried it once and didn't really like it but it's been years.

Open this this one and as other found, I'm pleasantly surprised. Big creamy bold mouthfeel. Light nose but med-long finish. Slight hint of tannin or bitterness after taste but very mild.

Like it much more than I expected. First pour only; only commented it because I was quite surprised.

I like that old label better than the current one and wouldn't hesitate to buy one if I ever came across it. Comparing old to current is always an informative exercise.

Went out for Thai food tonight and my 2 out of 5 on the spicy scale seemed more like a 4. So I had my doubts about how the bourbon would taste tonight and that was confirmed when I tried a small taste of 4RSmB. All bitterness. I thought maybe something higher proof might cut through so I tried Baker's. There was a weird sour note in the middle of the palate but the entry and finish seemed to be working so I risked a full pour. I regretted that for a while, but by the time I got near the end of the pour, the sour note faded and it was working close to normal. Feeling confident, I tried some WT101 next. While it wasn't on par with the best nights I've had with with it, it was still enjoyable. I figured a strong barrel proofer was necessary to cut through the remaining influence from the spicy dinner, so the ECBP came out. Finally - that did it. It's tasting absolutely divine tonight. As good as I remember it.

At a local tonight to watch a buddys band.  Ended up having a great time with many long time friends in full party on mode.  We ended up having several pulls off a flask full of Barrell Whiskey, followed by a couple of stiff pours of KCSB to finish it off.

Is that a Juilep glass?

Drinking the whisky neat in it?

Yes - those are stemless wine glasses.

Welcome aboard, Jacket.  Those are great drinking vessels for whiskey.

Having a small pour of Weller 12 to wash away the CAPS loss.  As I get near the end of this bottle I can honestly say I don't get the hype on it.  Not a bad pour but OWA is so much better in my opinion.

I think I drank an entire bottle of OWA last night.

How's your head feeling? I drank about half a bottle of JB BIB while smoking some ribs last night.  Also, had a few beers, so my head has felt better...

Starting tomorrow, I am going 30 days without alcohol. Decided to have a going away party with OFBB14, a RRSB store pick, and finally OBSK.

Why, are you doing it for health reasons?

I am conducting a blind tasting between my 2014 THH and a sample of 2015 THH that I received. I absolutely LOVE the 14 release of THH and am about halfway through my bottle. I had my roommate hand me the glencains and knew on the first sips which was my 14 bottle and which was the 15. I did not expect them to be SO different. Honestly it seems most people online regard the 14 as a weak release, but I enjoy it substantially more. Both of these are wonderful ryes, but the 14 has the edge for me.

The 15 seems to have an astringency that the 14 does not. Maybe the proof was higher? But the 14 tastes more refined and somehow much older than it is.

As posted elsewhere, today I finished off a long-opened EC 12yr I forgot about until the recent BOTM/EC12 v. EC NAS threads.  It was a small pour.  Hence, I am now sipping on my waste basket's OGD BIB.

The Oscar's start early on the west coast, so the bourbon drinking does also. 4RSmB to start off. Then some EC12. All this before dinner which is about to commence.

(semi) Dusty OC 8yr from ~95. Sort of tastes like what would happen if you were to pour every bottle of bourbon in America into one giant swimming pool, then dip a glass out and dissolve half a carmelita in it.

Edit: is OC the correct abbreviation for Old Charter around here? Presumably current Old Crow gets little love.

OC works for both Old Charter and Old Crow.  In these few cases of overlap and for clarity's sake, it is probably best to spell the name out the first time.  Then, abbreviate thereafter.
