If I keep getting ghosted when trying to find Stagg Jr, I might consider paying that price for a bottle of it.

Comparing this picture to prices I typically see on the secondary....

Anyone else think the Weller 12 is oddly the biggest bargain in that case?

And while $70 is on the high end of the stagg jr. range, dollars for proof (tipsy factor) it's really not too bad.

The BT mash two stuff is priced obnoxiously, but it just goes to show how varied the distribution is from state to state, and what the perceived value or scarcity is.

I have heard W12 is much more common in Texas, but here in STL, there would be a line around the block @ that price, just to get one.

Interesting picture.  Thanks for sharing.

I was thinking the same thing. Around here the Weller 12 would be the gouge and the RHF and ETL would be the only slightly ripoff price.

It's interesting how our perspective's vary, as the only one I think isn't a total rip-off is the Stagg Jr.

Yeah, that Stagg Jr. would tempt me at that price.

That's really interesting.  I usually find it for $43 -$50, if I'm in the right place at the right time.  It only lasts a day or two though.

There's another chain store in town that marks it at $70 and it still sells, but takes about a month to disappear.

Twcp process Stagg Jr around $44, and Randalls process or around $79...

FWIW, I bought two bottles of Stagg Jr back in January for $40.00 each.

I say "huh" every time I go into Total Wine and see that the proportion of NDP swill (so much of it by TerrePure) has grown in relation to the shrinking selection of major producers we know yet again.

The TW near my work has moved all of the TerrePure and TW labels to the top shelves and the majors stuff to the bottom.

"Now it's time to make some real money!" business model.  Shop wisely, my friends.

Hopefully, these top shelves are like...15' off the ground? ;)

I like the idea of putting the NDP and Craft stuff on the top shelf. It should mean more of that gets bought by others and leaves more of the bourbon I want sitting on the shelf when I get there. Nothing make me more upset than seeing someone buying the last bottle on the shelf of something I wanted and hearing them say something that indicates they don't have a clue about what they just bought. Make the crap more accessible to them.

I love the little cards with employees pictures on them that say stuff like "JOE'S FAVORITE !!!"  (almost always in front of one of their store brands).

My wife and I like to walk around the store and find all the little cards and say "damn.....that employee drinks a lot!  "They" like all this friggin wine, and whiskey, and vodka, and gin, and liquers, and 15 different kinds of beer, and cigars, and beer nuts peanuts.....and they're all "favorites".

I also like to move the little cards around the store and put them in front of some real crap......or in front of silly stuff like stirring sticks, toothpicks, plastic wine cups, gift bags, etc......or put like 6 of the same employees cards right next to each other in front of 6 different brand products on the shelf, just to mess with people........or sometimes in the bathroom on the back of the toilet if I'm feeling exceptionally obnoxious.

:)

Yeah, they have to push the high profit stuff over the others. One of the guys at my local TW knows that I know my stuff and yet he still pushes those on me even though I've never bought one. I know that he's just following orders so I cut him some slack.

I was in a TW in another state last weekend and I can't remember what brand it was, but they had stupid pricing. A 750ml bottle was $40, but the 1 liter bottle was $55??!! I am wondering how many stupid people take and buy a 1 liter bottle versus 2 750ml bottles.

My closest TW has Dant BIB 1L for $15.99 and OGD114 for $17.99.  They can put all the picture cards they want on anything as long as they have what those " in the know" really need. ????
