I'm curious to get your thoughts on the OKI. I passed that bottle up the last time I was in KY (I saw a sherry cask finished and I believe a brandy cask finished offering also). I came home with a bottle of Pinhook instead.

A friend who lives elsewhere delivered a Four Roses Small Batch LE 2016 that he found hanging out on a shelf somewhere.  It may not be the 2012 or 2013, but barrel proof small batch Four Roses = Winning!

Picked up a Wild Turkey Master's Keep, Decades.     I'll open it tomorrow, I imagine and give it a quick test drive.

I've been interested in trying this one, but never saw it in a bar and have had trouble pulling the trigger on a $100 gamble for a NAS bourbon from NY that is less than 100 proof.

What more readily available bourbon do you think this compares to the most?

It's like Angel's envy on crack... or similar to van winkle 12-15yr. It's worth it, I found them for $79.99 each.

Interesting.  What are the notes that are present in both Angel Envy and Van Winkel 12 and 15?

Picked up a few more that have been discontinued.

At the back of a shelf was a lone 1.75L of EC12.

Picked up another four 200ml bottles of FC6.

Huge influence of sherry and oloroso. This is what I get.....dark fruits, nice spice notes from the rye. Silky mouth feel, some dried apricot, burnt sugar. It's fantastic bourbon in my opinion.

Still a treat to find a 2016.

In this current market anything limited that I actually want to drink is a treat.

Beacon Bourbon, 100 proof, 2(?) years old, distilled and bottled by Dennings Point Distillery, Beacon, New York.

Went to our "regular" restaurant tonight and noticed a "new" bottle with an aqua "wax" top among the bourbons (picture below).  OF COURSE, I had to try it.  It was young and a little sharp - a lot of raw oak.  The label says is it made from corn, rye, and barley.  I'm sure glad they let me know.  As you can surmise (a fancy word that sort of means "guess" or "reckon"), I did not order a second.  In its defense, I guessed it was 1.5 to 2 years old and aged in small casks; the bartender asked me what I thought; I told her I hope I live long enough to taste their 10 year old bonded and asked for a LARGE basic BT neat as a chaser (ASIDE - they usually have BT around since I ask for it a lot).  A visit to the Beacon Bourbon website (also below) confirmed my own surmises - about two years old and aged in, maybe, 10, 30, and 53 gallon new white American oak barrels (I'm guessing from the toothpick edginess I tasted that the one I tasted was on the smaller end of the three).  They are putting their own mash in their own 250 gallon Vendome still.  MSRP about $40-45.  If you like slightly aged, well-made, young bourbon @ that price, go for it - it is better than most at that age and price.

Beacon Bourbon, 100 proof, 2 yrs old (maybe), distilled and bottled  by Denning's Point Distillery, Beacon (across the river from Newburgh near where the ferry used to dock), New York.  www.denningspointdistillery.com

I will say this, I have been to Denning's Point a few times and every one of them was enjoyable. They have a sourced product which I would guess is just 7-8 year old Mellow Corn. The last time I was there they were experimenting with making Bitters that were actually pretty great especially in the cocktails that we through together. Last I checked they were going to try moving towards only 53 gallon barrels, so I'm looking forward to how that goes for them.

I saw that note re: 8 yr old sourced whiskey on the website.  Bartender said she'd only been given the 2 yr. bourbon.  If the distiller/blender/picker who decided the 2 yr. old is ready for sale also picked/blended the 8 yr., I did like the 2 yr. enough (well, didn't hate it hahaha) that I would take a chance on the 8 yr. - maybe even a whole bottle's worth.

Cheap, plentiful, mediocre bourbon from BT still languishing on shelves years after losing its age statement.

Other than the proof being so low it is a solid daily drinker

Picked up an Elijah Craig 18 year, had it a couple of times at bars and thought it was v good. Paid a little more than I probably should have ($140) but it's hard enough to find at the best of times so figured why not. Been looking for a new taste profile for a little while.
