Stagg. She said she had connections. I have a bottle of Stagg Jr., and know where to get that if I want more. (not sure if I do).

Yeah she did say she had lots of contacts in the industry. Glad you liked.

BIL picked up the WT8 in Tokyo.  I found the Ezra 12 at a supermarket in Wisconsin.  I foolishly paid $55. I used to pass these up at $30 5 years ago.  Looks like Luxco has no shame in cashing in on the boom.

I'm really not all that much of a WT fan, but I do have to say that the WT 8 101 export was/is probably my favorite WT product. To me it's really well balanced. IMHO, it has just the right amounts of oak, smoke and spice. I hope you enjoy that bottle David. When you open 'er up, please report back and post your thoughts.

Cheers! Joe

I went shopping the other day, found a couple OWA 1L and a CEHT SiB.  Today, I stopped in the grocery store and stumbled into Weller 12 yr. at $29.95. That is NEVER around here...  Actually, first time I've seen it in person, not including in bars.

That's almost worth a drive over there. For that matter, if my wife happened to leave town for a few days and took the kids with her, I would schlep over to the other side of the state for a couple of those. Hmmmm, how can I make this happen? Nice find!

Why should they have shame to cash in on self-professed fools?  ;)

Brought this home today. Love OESK, and Pat at Bayway picked the barrel. Really look forward to giving this a go this weekend!  Icons of Whiskey becoming an periodicl release?

Been a good couple days. The IW Harper 15 and RY10 are from a fellow bourbon nerd who needed to clear some shelf space and gave me these open bottles at more than a fair price.

The W12 as well as the EC12 where found in some of my favorite spots for $30 each. The EC12 is for someone else but the W12 is for me.

Good point. The purchase was more motivated by trying something I've never had before.

I'm off to a week at the Delaware shore tomorrow.  Of course I'll do some hunting while I'm there.  And as usual I'm always open to suggestions as to suggested establishments. ;)

Ha!  The grass is always greener...  I just called a buddy to grab a 4R private selection from StL.

With as frequently as I see Weller 12 or Antique on MO side, you would be wasting your time 364.75 days of the year.  The W12 was delivered to the distributors best customers, two of which are grocery stores, and I expect my local big LS got some.  The groceries sell first come, first serve at msrp on all of their limited release stuff,  and one per customer.  The LS stashes the good stuff below the counter, and only pulls it out for their better customers.  I'd qualify there,  and was discretely approached by a manager last time there after asking a junior employee about "anything interesting behind the counter".  He had Blantons, but I already had 2.5 of those.  The average Joe probably wouldn't see much limited stuff there, unless it'd been sitting for a week, and they ask specifically.  The LS has a rewards/discount program that tracks purchases, so they know...

I picked up an ER10, WRDO, and an ECBP last weekend.  The ECBP was the last one on the shelf at my regular store, so I felt good about finding it.  Then I went to another store that was newly opened and saw a bunch of ECBP on the shelf.  Thought about buying another, but decided against it.  The next day, I changed my mind and went back and bought 2 more and the cashier told me that I should come back the next morning when they opened and there would be "other really good stuff there".  Taking the hint, I showed up just before 9am the next day and was the 12th person in line for their Grand Opening.  When I got inside, all the good stuff was behind the counter.  As I neared my turn, I noticed that the only bottle I was really interested in was disappearing quickly.  I got lucky and grabbed the last bottle of W12 for $32 out the door.  So happy I decided to go back for the ECBP the day before!!

@HoustonNit
Was that W12 on the shelf or did you have to ask for it?

On the shelf all by itself. I asked if the owner if they had more, she said that was the last of 5 that came in. She seemed surprised how quickly they went. Wish I was in there earlier, my guess is they came in this week.

Thanks...I'm looking forward to it. I hope it is half as good as the pour of 8 yr wild turkey from the 80's that another SB'er was kind enough to to share with me. That 8 yr was close to black in color. I'm guessing it was far more then 8 years.

I am not a fan of WSR either but I am curious as to what folks think of the current batches? A friend grabbed one at Liquor Barn last weekend and asked if I would like it.

I have gone through a 1/2 bottle of WSR and I find it easy and drinkable, After trying W12, I think its like a very mellow W12 but can't really discern a particular flavor. On a side note OWA I have not developed a good liking to it yet. I'm gonna let it sit for 4-6 weeks and go back to it. All I get is hot cinnamon burn from it that I don't particularly care for. I have had the 12 year my past two nights and really enjoy it. I love the mouth feel, as far as taste I get sweet burnt sugar and banana, with oddly a wet hay smell and taste, which is not offensive. I'm digging it.

Keep in mind, I know what tastes I really like, but I'm new at tasting and don't consider myself good at describing taste at this point in time.

One of my locals is getting in an OESK in a couple of weeks, assume it'll be similar age. When you open this up please let us know what you think.

I have really enjoyed this one also. So tasty. I plan on picking up another. We are flush with it in my area. I can get it low as 37.00

Went out to trader joes near me, and decided to go about 3 miles further and check out a few hidden area liquor stores. Stopped at about 4 different places and circled back and found another place that had 3 of these. Is this still considered age stated and as everyone says, TASTE BETTER compared to the new NAS EC??
