Went out to trader joes near me, and decided to go about 3 miles further and check out a few hidden area liquor stores. Stopped at about 4 different places and circled back and found another place that had 3 of these. Is this still considered age stated and as everyone says, TASTE BETTER compared to the new NAS EC??

It is age stated.

Not everyone says it tastes better than its NAS replacement...Actually, far from it.

Thanks Joe, bad wording on my part. But it seems that most people are seeking and preferring the age stated EC12 than the NAS EC. But as you said not everyone.

It's a cool find because it's not made any longer.  Great bottle to pack away for later, but there are numerous opinions that place the NAS it's equal, if not superior.  Shoot, the split might be 50:50, maybe 60:40 for 12.  Depends on ones oak tolerance, it seems. My passing on a 12 yr ECBP this weekend not withstanding, I would pick up any reasonably price 12 yr regular I came across.

Well I will need to open it tonight and have a taste while watching GOT. Should my palate like it and deem it worth picking up more, I will pick up the other 2 left on the shelf. The price was 33.50

Thanks

kind of what I was expecting when they announced it was going NAS.....as I thought it too woody at its old 12 year age statement and refused to buy any after more after the last few tries of 12 year were beyond disappointing for me, particularly the store selected barrel I bought last.

I may have to try it again now, and hope its more like an 8-10 year

Anything swapped in trade counts as purchased. ;)

One of my locals is getting in an OESK in a couple of weeks, assume it'll be similar age. When you open this up please let us know what you think.

Houston:

I've taken some time to get my thoughts together here.  Uncharacteristically, I bought three without having tasted it first.  First sip from a newly opened bottle was more heat than nuance.  After several small sips over the weekend, I am starting to get a bead on this.  I tasted it neat in a glencairn and later SBS with an 11Y6M OBSK.  Yeah, the cult owns me.  While I would love to imagine what this barrel would taste like with more age, the stuffing is there.  Really good juice, just hot.  I added some water and flavors just exploded!  Nose of warm corn bread and vanilla and a touch of spice.  Flavors in line with the nose.  These younger barrels just need some water/ice.  I think you will need to experiment with the final proof, but I'm happy with what's there.

Pretty good stop on the way to the lake. Left a dozen of the 12 craigs on the shelf. had bad luck with old taylor but grabbed it anyway hoping I had a bad pour/bottle.

These numbers are based on what research?

I'm not sure how far Joe's 'research' extends (but I wouldn't discount anything he says).     But for my personal "research" on a few bottles of the NAS, and many bottles of the age-stated, I agree with Joe.

The 12-year was/is often right up to the edge of my line for 'oak tolerance', and the NAS hasn't been so woody to me.    Thus I would take any NAS as quickly as any 12-year offered to me.... And enjoy it for sure.

My methods are typically classified and shared in detail on a need-to-know basis only.  But generally speaking for these type of things I will employ standard national telephone samples consisting of list-assisted-random-digit-dial (RDD) telephone samples using a proportionate stratified sampling design.  Numbers are routinely generated from all working phone exchanges by an IBM XZ42C Hypercon "The Whopper" Mainframe and results are accurate to within 0.07%.  Lots of number crunching, let me assure you.

But in this particular instance, I guessed.   -_-

Not sure people's general opinion about reviews from breaking bourbon? They did a tasting of EC age stated vs. NAS vs. a I believe a 10 yr store pick.

They ranked them store pick, 12, NAS.

I have to pick up a store pick EC one of these days.

Noah's Mill 114 proof. Much more impressed with it this time around. I think the problem for me was it's $55 and for a few dollars more you can get Bookers (and somewhat higher proof), which is pretty tough competition, so I always get the Bookers. But it's also a very flavorful, impressive bourbon. I don't think it'll ever replace Bookers for me, but it's definitely a very tasty, quality bourbon for the price. It seems I rarely taste anything new in the $40 to $60 range anymore that I think is worth the money. This one is.

Sounds like a good name for another over-hyped, over-priced bourbon. Makes as much sense as "Blood Oath." A truly anemic bourbon given the hype and the price.

Obviously there's going to be some variation but the two store picks of EC I have I think are better than the EC12 with age statement on the back.

After about a 2 year hiatus, I started buying bourbon again recently.  This weekend I found some pretty good deals.

A local chain is running a special on WT101 1.75s for $29.98.  I ended up buying a total of 4, although I did it by buying at different stores as to leave some for others.  It has to be a loss-leader at that price and I pass by several locations daily so it wasn't an inconvenience for me.  That price works out to be the equivalent of $12.85 for a 750.   I'm a big fan of the stuff to begin with, so it was a no-brainer.

I also picked up a 750 of the Maker's Mark Cask Strength for $44 at Kroger.  I've been wanting a bottle of this, but always thought it was a little overpriced at the normal $55-70 it normally goes for.

Well, at least you guys now know who the sucker is on these boards. Didn't think I would ever see one but lo and behold there it was and I couldn't take my eye off it. Proud owner of an overpriced pint of bourbon. Hopefully when I taste it tonight I realize I was actually a genius for buying it.

I have a whole shelf of my genius picks.  All I need now is somebody to drink them.

No purchase today - wife was in the car.  BUT, I have a line on VOB "6" BIB which is spotty here, and my bunker needs replenishing to hold me over until the next shipment arrives.  Maybe tomorrow . . .
