I have a whole shelf of my genius picks.  All I need now is somebody to drink them.

No purchase today - wife was in the car.  BUT, I have a line on VOB "6" BIB which is spotty here, and my bunker needs replenishing to hold me over until the next shipment arrives.  Maybe tomorrow . . .

I say go for it Harry. I bought one (minus the "6") Saturday just 'cause I like it, and it doesn't show up around here very often.

Cheers! Joe

My  case of OWA finally came in...

Seriously though, a friend of mine brought me a store pick yesterday that he found while traveling for work.

Then today I won a different local store pick bottle & they gave me the box.

Been a good week so far.

:)

My methods are typically classified and shared in detail on a need-to-know basis only.  But generally speaking for these type of things I will employ standard national telephone samples consisting of list-assisted-random-digit-dial (RDD) telephone samples using a proportionate stratified sampling design.  Numbers are routinely generated from all working phone exchanges by an IBM XZ42C Hypercon "The Whopper" Mainframe and results are accurate to within 0.07%.  Lots of number crunching, let me assure you.

But in this particular instance, I guessed.   -_-

Nice :)

The wife picked these two up today for me while on the other side of the river.

Tried the OE7-101. Not too bad. Simple, sweet, and smooth for just over $20. Once the alcohol wafted off after 5 minutes or so it has a really good nose too. I tried it SBS with a freshly opened Stagg Jr. 130 for the wife and it didn't quite stand up to that but it's half as much.

Houston:

I've taken some time to get my thoughts together here.  Uncharacteristically, I bought three without having tasted it first.  First sip from a newly opened bottle was more heat than nuance.  After several small sips over the weekend, I am starting to get a bead on this.  I tasted it neat in a glencairn and later SBS with an 11Y6M OBSK.  Yeah, the cult owns me.  While I would love to imagine what this barrel would taste like with more age, the stuffing is there.  Really good juice, just hot.  I added some water and flavors just exploded!  Nose of warm corn bread and vanilla and a touch of spice.  Flavors in line with the nose.  These younger barrels just need some water/ice.  I think you will need to experiment with the final proof, but I'm happy with what's there.

Thank you for the response. I had some OESK recently and really liked it. It was a 10+ but still. Good to hear you liked it. Your tasting notes is exactly what I'm looking for so hopefully I won't be out town when this hits and obtain a bottle or two.

Was that one place? A whole variety of WSR paper labels with and without age statements. Very impressive.

Picked up a Baker's and a couple of bottles of Blanton's. Picked these up from a couple of smaller stores who looked like they could use some business.

Missed that they where all age stated very cool. I've found AN101 but no paper label WSR in the past year or so. Somewhat surprising as I feel Houston is the biggest Weller market there is. Which might be the problem as the product has actually turned over the past 5 years or so.

It's a rainy day at the beach so it's time for some tax free Delaware shopping at some of the local liquor emporiums. :D

Still a neophyte to the bourbon game. Found 3 bottles of Weller reserve and 2 bottles of Weller Antique. Paid $22 for the Weller Reserve and $63 for the antique. Did I get screwed? Found them in a little discount liquor/smoke shop. I know this stuff is common for some places but have had zero luck findining it in the bigger stores in Saint Louis.

63.00 for the antique is a bit much, It goes for 30-35 here, I paid 30. If you find it works for your palate, then who cares. Enjoy.

$63 each for the Weller Antique ?    750ml or larger?

Ouch!

its usually $25-35 for 750ml's

but yes, it's rather hard to find around here.

Green label Weller should be less than $20 per 750ml bottle.

Where is this proud establishment?  We have a few "gems" around here ;)

^^^ Agree. If you want it, can afford it, and you like it...it's a good day.

Thanks for the feedback. It's out in Saint Peters MO off off Jungermann. I can live with the special Reserve bein a couple bucks more. Hate to hear you can get the antique for 1/2 the price. I haven't seen any bottles around so guess I jumped a little to quick at the oppurtunity. Live and learn. Guess I will have to savor it a bit.

It is hard to find the Weller antique around here.  Seems like we get it once or twice a year and its gone in about a day.

Also, it's a very good bourbon.  Probably my favorite of the Wellers (not incl. LaRue) and some of the better current production wheated bourbon you'll ever drink.

Nothing you can do now except enjoy it.

If it makes you feel any better, I paid $50 for a bottle of it once, in a similar circumstance to yours.

Picked up an OF1920 tonight.  Had a small taste and enjoyed it.  Looking forward to trying it side by side some others.

Picked up a bottle of RHF tonight.  It's been a year or more since I've seen it in the state.

Periodically, we get VOB BIB in WashDC.  Some stores are better than others at spreading out their stock so we all get a shot.  I picked up 4 750s today (as I was told they have several more cases "downstairs") which should hold me through the next few months.  I also picked up an OF 1897 at under $45.  I sure hope it continues to be discounted.  I used the rest of my "savings" to buy a Writers Tears (an Irish Whiskey I've never had but that some of you recommended) but had to leave some Teelings I coveted on the shelf - no more room in my car trunk.  Maybe next time.
