I need to compare my newly acquired bottle from Ace Spirits to a local pick that I really like (and which I've gone through several bottles of). Opened up the Ace bottle last night and it tastes like a worthy challenger!

Well let me know if you'd like to try this private selection I'm rather fond of from a store here in SF. I can certainly spare a few ounces and I'd be curious how it compares to the ones you have open.

Our first grandchild was born to our daughter! The lovely new young lady is pictured on the laptop screen in the photo below. Given that beautiful baby girl, you can probably understand why I chose the Bourbon in the photo! Congrats! Welcome to the club. Cheers! Not as hot as I remember - must be the "air time" effect or the big ole ball of ice in the Yeti, perchance? A nice pour before bedtime. Stagg Jr. is one of the few bourbons I like with ice. At the end of the drink your having a good BT.
Bob_Loblaw
A little OF 1920. This is my first OF product and finally went for it after reading all the positive reviews. Fantastic, the nose is all candied cherry and just tons of sweetness. Not too much burn considering the 115 proof. On the pallet I still get that sweetness, but what really hits me is the high viscosity and syrupy mouthfeel. I love it! The finish is where the heat finally shows up with an almost spicy kick. I really enjoy this one, it's unique in a good way and a bottle I will purchase again. Anyone have any idea on age of this?
kevinbrink
I can't think of many craft bourbon's I have "enjoyed" this one though is just weird enough to be an enjoyable pour.

That Dickel 17 is pretty pricey. I like Dickel a lot on occasion, but every time I've seen Dickel 17, I haven't been able to convince myself that I like Dickel that much. Sometimes with NAS releases like this the master distiller will say it’s a blend of X-Y year old barrels, but from what I can tell they’ve been silent on the issue of age (as they tend to be for everything except for OFBB). I read one review that said it was 4.5yo but that could have been a complete guess, and it sounds low to me. Some folks here who have had both good OF single barrels (which tend to be in the 4.5 year range) and the 1920 may be able to venture better guesses than me, but if I had to guess, I’d say it’s a blend of 6-8yo barrels. It’s possible that it’s younger and the barrels are from high in the rickhouse. As for me, I’m drinking a little EC private selection. I know that this is a good bottle because I’ve had a couple pours from it, but it’s not tasting quite right tonight. Maybe my palate is having a wonky day. Vosgar
Fishnbowljoe and I got together for a few pours tonight after our Wednesday night cigar club meeting fizzled out. Started out with pours from a couple of decanters I picked up over the weekend, an Early Times from 1976 and then a 1969 Old Cabin Still. We followed those up with Joe's latest Weller blends, and as usual, he knocked it out of the park. That boy sure knows how to vat! We then moved on to a Virgin Bourbon 7yr 101 that Smokinjoe picked up for me....outstanding whiskey. Thanks Joe! Finished the night by killing off the last of a CEHT Tornado. Great way to spend a Wednesday

Talking to an OF rep at the Great american whiskey fair here in columbia sc last week (if i recall, I'd had several pours) was the target age for 1920 was 6-7 years. Press release on the statesman says 4-6 years from the upper stories of their steam heated warehouses. My general take away was the 1920 is older than the statesman but not by a whole lot. They seem to place a lot of emphasis on the heated warehouses and aggressively aging their barrels.

lcpfratn
I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Just because I really like Dickel, and I've not had this one yet. I don't think it's $80 per 375ml good, which is the lowest price I've ever seen it. As I recall, the reviews haven't been that good either, but everyone's palate is different. Of course many don't like Dickel at all because of the "vitamin" taste that is definitely evident in the younger Dickel products.

Same, it's one of those bottles that someone like me can't stop themselves from buying at the distillery. On the positive side I split the bottle with my brother and I do like it, I don't get any of the vitamin taste in this one though in truth it doesn't generally bother me.
