Golzee
Stopped into Binnys since I was in the area. I picked up a bottle of the new Jim Beam Distillers Cut for $19.99. It's been getting some love here, and I am a Beam fan. I'll chime in when I open it up.
Paddy
I finally caved and picked up a 1792 225th. I also picked up a couple of Bowman SmB's earlier in the week. Man, anybody else noticed how once you open one of those things up, they just disappear!
lilsweetpea
Tonight we picked up a 1792 BIB, 1792 Full Strength, High West Midwinters Dram. We also saw some Boss Hog but passed it up for the $$$.

Even though I have always found VOB 6-year BIB to be a little hot, I suspected that I might enjoy a higher proof 1792. I have found that I really enjoy a store select 98.6 proof 1792 Single Barrel and a store select 1792 Full Strength. I would like very much to give a 1792 BIB a try but I haven't seen one yet. I have passed on some of the other iterations like the High Rye. The reviews haven't been too good. Let us know us know how you like the 1792 bottles. cdcdguy
Winding my way through "table" bourbons . JTS is the only one I tried. Any comments on the others? They were all pretty cheap.

The Old Ezra 101 is pretty good stuff, but it’s crept up quite a bit in price since it still has an age statement. I’ve bought a few bottles that were priced in the low $20 range (I understand it’s cheaper in other areas), but I’ve also seen it lately priced in the mid to upper $20 range. At around $20 or lower it’s a very good value, but as it gets closer to $30, there are better options. I haven’t tried the others, but the VOB, when it was 6yrs old was pretty good for around $15. I just bought the VOB BiB a few weeks ago at the ABC for $14 and it is pretty good. But it is NAS now. And I love the fact that it comes in a Wellers bottle. Clueby
The OE7/101 Is probably my favorite of that group. I was really surprised by it. It runs between $20 and $25 here. I like it a lot better than HH6BIB or the HH86...which I actually prefer to the BIB. The last VOB BIB I got was still 6 years. I haven't tried the NAS version yet but I'd put the 6 year version between the HH and the OE. The VOB is different though with a lot more fruitiness. cdcdguy
I paid 24 for the OE7. The others were in the 15 to 20 range. The Dant was a bit more, but it's a whole liter!

flahute
Picked up two more ECBP B batches from last year. I'm particularly fond of this batch so it's a bit annoying that it won Whiskey of the Year which means people who didn't know anything about it before that now want it. Also grabbed an OF Statesman as I like that one quite a bit as well.
emr454
WTRB 112.8 tonight. I need to grab a 116.8 and do a sbs tasting
NDN98
Picked up a couple of these today. Adding the OESQ to my bar an will be opening one tonight. The store that did the barrel pick, True Spirits, went out of business when a Total Wine opened up down the road, so they sold their barrel pick to another local, Liquor Outpost, that is very close to my house. JW Dant is ok (the nose reminds me of the potpourri sitting in my grandmothers bathroom which is kind of weird to me). VOBBIB is ok (it has a little banana thing going on). gurgalunas
Came across a 1792 High Rye for $39.99 and grabbed it. I've always liked the 1792 lineup...

You have to let me know how you like the high rye. I've been wanting to give this and the sweet wheat a try. All 1792's I've had (single barrel, small batch and full proof) have had a brown banana taste that I don't care for much and would be interested if you get that from the high rye. Cheers! PS. I hope I didn't just ruin 1792 for you by mentioning the brown banana taste I get.

Anyway, I like the High Rye and Sweet Wheat, but they get generally mixed reviews. Neither are amazing or anything, but they're also not priced as such IMO --say between $30-$40/bottle. I enjoy them both FWIW, but would not go out of my way to pick one up (or pay a premium).
Basil
Found this guy on the way to work. Would this be considered a dusty? I've had a few of the newer versions of EH Taylor, which I have enjoyed. Going to open this one next time my bourbon drinking buddies are at the house.

Can't say I've ever gotten anything banana from these two but I haven't anything from the standard 1792 line in a long time so I don't know if it's present in only those or that it's present in all of them but that I don't taste it. Who knows, maybe I'm completely off base with the banana note. Isn't that the great thing about whiskey? Different people have completely different palates and get different notes from the same spirit. Cheers!
