dad-proof
Wanted to pull the trigger on a bottle of Baker's but the store near me at the beach didn't have it. Picked up a JB Distiller's Cut instead and cracked it open. Not as balanced or mature as Baker's, but a fine pour at half the price.

Pulled pork, jalapeno poppers, etc with some games and threw the baseball around. Everyone's gone so it's time for a store pick EC. That's a darn good Sunday. Sounds good all around! This end of May heat has been brutal. Hottest May temps in Indy in 5 years. When its hot, I find a small cube or two of ice to liberate flavors and chill it down to be good.

And how much is Booker and KC? Actually when I said that it goes for $40-42 here in Texas, that's at the more competitive liquor stores. There are plenty of stores that price it for what Booker's used to sell for before the price hike ($49). At that price point you are looking at ECBP, Stagg Jr., OF 1920, and RRSiB. Bookers is $75-85. KCSiB is $45-

Masset1982
Some Taylor BP tonight, yummy as always. Trying to get the last batch recently, the 128.1, lots of great reviews about it. Cheers! Will.
mikeydk
I decided to crack open a bottle that is part of my Hall of Fame. It's delicious, challenging, and I have so many, many fond memories associated with various bottles of Noah's Mill over the years. It was the very first "premium" bottle I ever purchased early in my bourbon journey, and it's been by my side ever since. With all of the choices out there, and I have so many in my home bar (this is absurd really) I often overlook some things that I've always enjoyed as I'm on the hunt for "new" and "exciting." Noah's Mill is like Woody from Toy Story. Always there when I'm ready to play. Cheers Woody!

Took 5 stores to find it, though. I'm so proud my mention of my 2 dollar pour of Bakers was able to inspire such interest in an often overlooked and under appreciated bourbon...Enjoy (I sure did)

CUfan99
The extra nice thing about still being a newbie is bottles that line nearly every LS shelf still hold new and exciting experiences . OGD114 is my latest new experience and I really like it. Even though I've only had that 1st pour off a new bottle it wasn't at all hot or rough like I expected. I did have some WT101 Rye beforehand which was probably a good palate conditioner. There was some spice along with a rich caramel flavor that I really dig. The low-rye ryes and the high-rye bourbons are my favorite. The price is right too at $22.

Just killed a RR SiB store picks sample, this stuff was gold, I guess a honey barrel, tried another sample from another barrel recently, it was meh, that’s the problem with single barrels anyway. I bought my first bottle of this (from Toddy's in Bardstown) back in September of 2010, because I had visited the Heaven Hill heritage center and wanted a bottle that said "Heaven Hill" on it as a souvenir. Opened it in front of the campfire that evening. Almost eight years later, I'm still buying it and still enjoying the trip back in time with each sip. Oh no!!!! You got a new phone!?

There's lots of things on the shelves that are really interesting and enjoyable. Not every "great" whiskey is $100+ a bottle. There are many great bottles that are under $30, and are usually, readily available. This is pretty much how I spent my last year, buying the "lower" tiered things to see what hidden gems I could discover. Old Grand Dad 114, is definitely one of those gems. Not sure it's hidden anymore, thanks internet (which ironically is how I discovered it).

bayouredd
What is better than KC 120? How bout' KC 240? Oops, sorry I let my proofs get mixed up with my AC voltages... I decided to try 2 different store picks in a 50/50 blend. Sorry to say that it wasn't the sum of the combination. R-KC 120 is a flavor bomb which has been a burst of intense flavor as good as anything I have tried. B-KC 120 has more of a flowing flavor throughout with much spicy-ness on the finish. The blend took the flavor bomb away but kept an even keeled flavor with more spice throughout. My fav, still the R-KC 120 2nd, the blend 3rd, but not to be dismissed by any means the B-KC 120 I just really dig this bourbon; but I can definitely see myself getting into the ECBP as I had a taste of that very recently. Damn, I never thought I would become a high proof guy; oh well...
