The Highwire Revival is 2 years old, and tastes like it. The 100% red corn is interesting, but just too young and lacking much depth.

The story on resurrecting the jimmy red is very commendable and a real opportunity to showcase what a small distillery can do to carve out a spot, a legit, long term spot on the shelf. The consensus is its too young and thats a shame as its a real missed opportunity. Just under 100 bucks, I would consider it to support the investment in this heritage corn variety but not unless its aged to the point where it tastes good. The crafties MUST get this point, if you expect more than a one and done of your customer base, DONT release your whiskies until they are properly aged and TASTE GOOD!! Points of reference abound on the shelves of any store from the distilleries that have been “doing it right” for many many decades now, emulate that!!

A salute to the 4th with a freshly opened 4R OBSO from 2014, 10yr/ 3 mo right in the sweet spot for me with 4RPS at the 10.5 yr mark. Full of delicious raspberry  flavors, spice and tobacco, this one is a monster,  a luscious, delicious monster!! Pure JR magic in a bottle.

That's a helluva start to Independence Day!

I didn't realize it was a $100 bottle at retail, the taste alone definitely doesn't justify it. There was some pleasant complexity (including a nice squid ink type finish), and it shows a lot of promise, but the raw grain/spirit flavors got in the way for me. Another 2-4 years would make this a try again pour, but not until then. I agree heirloom grains is a great niche area that low volume producers could differentiate themselves with.

Good to know.  I've been tempted to try it but the ~$100 price tag has scared me off so far.  I guess I can cross it off my list now.  Thanks.

Last night. Man, this 8 year PS drinks well above it’s weight class. Drinks more like a 10-12 year. Much better than the 9 year my county got.

A large snifter of WTRR, and then some VOB90 and ginger ale after finishing this home made bowl of gumbo! ;) Anything in my bunker “pairs” with this! :)

Got the grill going with a variety of meat and fire doing their thing, and a healthy pour of some Barrell Dovetail in a glencarin. So far so good!

It has been quite a while, but decided to have a one pour to properly celebrate the holiday. My taster isn't where it used to be for sure but enoying it nonetheless. Probably a while before the next one so savoring it.

Glad to see, this is where those minus 75 pounds are going to make themselves known— so please be careful.

Started off this Independence Day with some J.T.S. Brown BIB.  Which was . . . ok (for $10, didn't expect more than that).  Quickly moved up to some FRSmBLE 2014, which is delicious!

I have a lot to choose from, but OGD 114 seem fit to start with. Happy 4th, what a great country.

I’ve only had one pour so far. It’s interesting overall and not what expected.

Smooth with very little spice. Decent flavor with a unique undertone.

Not or sure that I would buy again at $100. But I need more tastings!!

Tonight has been an interesting adventure.

Started off with Horse Soldier Reserve. Is good; like if ER & WT101 had an 86 proof baby. Nice pour while in the pool.

Before fireworks I cracked into my Michter's Rye barrel proof. Glad this was a light pour, because right after the HS this had a super mint forward taste. Not what I'm after.

For fireworks and the cool down afterwards I'm enjoying a KC SiB store pick. Glad o didn't start here because this 120 proof is going down easy! I've still never tasted peanuts on any of these, which some other folks do.

Happy 4th everyone. I'm going to listen to the dogs keep barking and enjoy another pour of this KC.image000000_05.jpg

Well that was the whole pour and I can say for certain that I noticed I drank it, so point taken!

The people in my neighborhood like to set off a lot of fireworks.

Anyway, fireworks dying down, OGD hitting the spot.

Couldn't sleep. Good old OWA and a few slices of Manchego cheese while watching All About Lily Chou-Chou.

We had a gathering of neighbors for some tailgating at the pool. Most pitchers of cocktails but we did get into some Weller Special Reserve and Basil Hayden.
