People are out there scarfing up toilet tissue and soap, but which bourbon(s) are you going to make sure to have an ample supply in the event you get saddled with a 14-day quarantine due to covid19 (or Wuhan virus for all you racists out there ?)?

I’ve stocked up on WT101, but I’d like to have a full bottle of something higher end as well so I’m on the hunt around town.  I also picked up a bottle of RedBreast 12 year yesterday, but that was yesterday so it’s no longer a full bottle.

For me, at least, a 14-day quarantine wouldn't put any sort of dent in my stash.   I could open a brand new bottle every day without needing to buy anything at all; though I wouldn't, nor would I need to do so, as I already have double that number or more open and ready!   If however, I was without any Bourbon in my house and had to suddenly provision the homestead for such an eventuality, I'd probably grab one each: OGD BIB, WT 101, and maybe OGD 114, Buffalo Trace, Knob Creek SB 120, and if pressed, maybe Elijah Craig Barrel Proof.     I figure that would tide me (and anybody likely to be stuck there with me...HA!) over for double the time indicated.

I have plenty of Weller’s and other good bourbons in my bunker  to keep me company in case any such thing happens. Just sayin’. :P

I dont have near the bunker that many folks here gave, but I have plenty of bourbon, rye, frozen brisket, and frozen wild hog meat to drink and eat like a king if said quarantine happened.

Bourbon would likely be the last thing we would run out of. But if I had to run to the store now, a Wild Turkey flight sounds nice and available - 101, RB, RR 10 and RR SiB. The Kentucky Spirit has become harder to find so that might unfortunately get left out. Or you just buy a case of OGD and call it a day (plus I hear it keeps well in the trunk of a car).

I might as well pull out a special bottle or two,  like my Stitzel-Weller Old Fitz bonded,   or WIld Turkey Rye distilled in Maryland, or a dimpled Old Forester Bonded.

I'm in self-imposed quarantine already since I found that I interacted with folks that tested positive at a conference. I have racial immunity to the disease (long story, a rare gene combo), but being nice to my co-workers... I'm finding that I drink less and less these days. Kicking back with a double pour after a hard day's work has a certain appeal, working from home doesn't feel the same :)

Lot's of people from Boston testing positive from a certain gathering. Happy to hear you may have immunity.

Be safe!

I would actually like to hear the long story. I heard nothing about any kind of immunity to this disease so you have me intrigued.

Not specific to covid-19 but many coronas, and nothing too exciting for the genetics community, but: The virus needs a specific protein with a specific seq to bind to. My background is very mixed, but I happened to hit all the right racial traits, and ended up with no RNA to build that protein. So the virus doesn't stick. That also means I'm a big hazard, no symptoms whatsoever but I can infect everyone just fine :)

I'm applying my disinfectant from the inside by drinking lots of whiskey (bourbon and scotch) all day and every nite. So far, so good!   ☺

I'm ready for the total breakdown of society.  I have about 300+ bottles stashed.  I could use is as hand sanitzer and still be OK

In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, I burned through cases and cases of rather nice liquid stock as currency for sliding through National Guard roadblocks, obtaining gasoline and getting priority with electrical crews and tree/debris removal teams. It's going to disappear quicker than you think.

Not this time, but it means I've caught up with all my UK errands from the last 3 months and am back to playing guitar and drinking bourbon and rum of an evening...

just make sure you are sticking to options that are at least 60% alcohol. That seems to be how strong it needs to be to kill off the virus.

I'm pretty sure our "stash" could help kill off any viruses or at least keep us oblivious.  Ignorance is bliss sometimes!

Sadly, I could be in isolation for many years and still emerge with lots of bottles still unopened. However, I would be very happy with the quality of pours I got to enjoy during that time frame. Although, it might be in my best interest to add to the wife's wine stock as she does not have the same reserves to endure a long quarantine period.

Sure, but wine won't 'keep' like Bourbon.    So a 'Bunker' of wine mightn't be a good idea.

Not being any sort of wine aficionado whatsoever, I'll hazard a guess here... Wine might keep about 6-months in the sealed box, and another several days (or maybe a week) in the fridge after you open the box.   How's that sound?  HA!
