What Bourbon Are You Drinking Today (Spring 2020)

Today I decided to pull the vanilla beans from my 1.75ml VOB 100p infusion that I started back in January.

 

It has developed a nice subtle bourbon-banana cream pie flavor that suits me very well.  The vanilla has also soothed out a bit of the harshness that VOB 100 sometimes gives off, making this dangerously easy to drink.

Super happy with how this turned out.

The wife (unfortunately for me) figured it out too, and is already on her second glass.

Decided it was time to head down to the bunker and grab a bottle of BTAC to have on hand. Ended up choosing a George T. Stagg from 2017 to open and enjoy. No time like the present to start enjoying some of the bottles I have stashed away. Hope everyone is staying safe! Cheers.

Drinking "cheap" during Coronapocalypse .  Buffalo Trace, Four Roses, Larceny, EW SB.  Another week or two and I may break into the good stuff in the bunker.

Enjoying a pour of some 2017 GBS EC.  If I had forced rank the GBS picks, this would have been last on my list (may still be, as I can't think of what would take that slot!)  But it is drinking remarkably better than I recall.  Rich and chewy . . . although maybe the air being thick with pollen is helping

So sorry to hear this, @Kane. Do you think its Covid-19, or just the "regular" flu? The scariest part of this virus (besides the obvious things, like death) is the loss of smell that people seem to have with it. 

 

Hope you are on the mend by now and that the illness is short-lived.

I am so happy to see you post in the forum as I have always enjoyed your experience with and perspective on bourbon.  WT101 has always been in my rotation.  After several years of average bourbon, at best, the last year of so of WT101 has been stellar, especially for the price.   The two bourbons I enjoy at $20 are WT101 and OGDBIB.  I am working on a bottle of OGDBIB which is quite good.  However, I believe I prefer recent bottles of WT101 slightly more.

Having some KC SB store pick tonight. A 15 1/2 year we picked back in August of last year. Funny how some barrels come in  about 2 to 3 months and others take 6 to 8 months. Anyway, this is very good bourbon, only 90 bottles from this barrel. I’m glad I was able to get a few, I know we want be seeing these 15y KC store picks anytime soon.

Earlier tonight Mrs. Kepler and I celebrated with our anniversary dinner. Since coronavirus "stay at home" measures are in place, that meant I grilled steaks in the back yard instead of going out. The steaks turned out good, we popped open a nice bottle of wine, and all in all a very nice evening. Especially considering the circumstances. 

It's the little things that matter.

 

Tonight's first after-dinner pour was a 4R OESV that I've been working on. Now time to step things up a bit. Keeping the Four Rose's theme going, ... 2016 SmBLE. Tastes very good.

Climbing the Weller ladder tonight. The wife elected to only have pours of a couple. Had to open fresh bottles of WSR (my first SB PS), W12, and OWA. The WSR is a nice surprise. Amped up from the standard a bit. This W12 is a bit sooty. Occasionally get a bottle like that. It's good but has a bit of ashiness in the finish. The softness and oiliness is noticable over the WSR. The OWA is just pretty much my favorite all around solid wheated bourbon. Never disappoints. The WFP adds quite a bit of vanilla that I don't get in the rest of the lineup along with sweetness and some heat. I still thinks it's like "baby WLW". (Sorry @0895) The WLW...what can you say really? It's on a different plane altogether.

As for me, I decided to follow the example set by some of my esteemed fellow members. I opened up one of my “good” bottles. As others have said, life’s too short. After the all clear was given following a tornado warning, we came came up from the basement and I opened a bottle of ER 10/101.
