I never drink when I’m hurt or when I’m mad and this past week I was both. Last weekend I tore my meniscus in half in my left knee. So Thursday morning I had it tied back together… Or whatever they do. I can’t stand taking pain pills so I finally got around to sneaking outside and enjoying a little bourbon from a flask I snuck out in my pocket. This was a WJ sample from barrel pic we did earlier this year. It’s nice to have a good sip of bourbon after not drinking for a week.

I know what you’re going through.... no envy here.

I too basically refused the heavy duty pain pills, and my wife (gf at the time) basically gave me the ultimatum of “taking the damn pills or drinking until I was less bitchy”.  Me being stubborn and not wanting to follow any instructions just went to bed instead.

?

At day 4 I snuck out while she was at work and drove my stick shift car one legged (right was good)  just to get out of the house for a bit.  The whole trip was planned around avoiding stops on uphills.

?

Enjoy that MGP? WJ12 & the fresh air!

Geez LC, what a shitty week. Enjoy the whiskey (in moderation, of course) and take care of yourself!

Thanks but now I am reminded of the Mark Twain quote that I would not belong to a club that would have me as a member. In this case I will gladly make an exception.

I tried a pour of the EHT Amaranth stuff. I liked it better than I expected to. Interesting for sure. Clearly not worth all the crazy secondary hype though

Having some more of the OF1920 with a square of Ghiradelli 92% cacao dark  chocolate for dessert.

Back to good ol HH tonight. I could ALMOST be satisfied with only having this available as the only bourbon.

Two wheaters, Makers Mark RC6 and Weller Antique.  Similar proof.  I think I prefer the former; it is richer and more viscous.  The Antique is more lean, and with much more spice.  Both great drinks.

Speaking of OF 100...  I’ve taken up buying it by the handle, as I‘m finding the recent batches to be ‘on point’, once again.

It’s quite the development for me,  after what I felt had been a brief 4 -5 year period of decline for the brand.

And to address what appears to be a popular question of late, I say yes... it’s still and forever will be OF Signature!

Why?

Because there’s just too much history there to overlook the fact that the signature is still on the label (yes, I’m also aware that it’s also on the 86 label, but I don’t care?)!

Additionally, the rear label of the current  100 proof most appropriately pays homage to the origins of the brand, as well as said signature.

Beside’s, I can be a bit of a sentimental purist; but in reality, I just like to disagree with you bastards.  ?

I was a big fan of OF Sig, starting with the diamond label that replaced the OF bottled in bond.  It was in my lineup for years.  Around seven or so years ago, I got two bad bottles in a row.  I moved on to other things.  When they came out with the throwback white paper label, I tried one.  It was a small improvement over the bad bottles, but not good enough to make me buy more.

Then the 100 proof rye came out, and got some good reviews.  I tried it, and really like it.

Meanwhile, Steve, Paddy, and probably some others start posting - now OF 100 is so good.  I had to see for myself.  I picked one up today.  This is very similar to how I remember it back around 2013 or a little earlier.  ?

Poured some more EC12 while listening to music and catching up on news. I just saw that Little Richard died, RIP.  Always sad to lose another of the original founders of rock music.

Finishing out a bottle of OWA, while watching Aquaman with the better half. Pretty good pour. Movie is ok.

Cheers

That's either the smallest bottle of Taylor I've ever seen or the biggest steaks I've ever seen.  Nice...

I understand. I tore my meniscus in my left knee a few years ago. Hurt like hell when going downstairs. Did a bit of reading on it. There are basically three types, red -red; red-white; and white white based on blood flow to the area. Red-reds will usuallyheal over a 4 -6 week period, red-whites May heal over a longer time depending on age  and white- white tears are unlikely to heal. One of the things I found out was that up until the mid 70s, surgeons did not think the knee cartilage served any real purpose so they routinely just removed it. That explains a lot about the knee issues in 1960s pro football players.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery.  I am not one to usually recommend self medicating but in this case go for it.

Memory can be a funny thing.  I looked at some old sent emails, and determined that 2016 was when I decided OF had changed for the worse (more recent than I had originally posted).

Anyway, the most current batch is good. ?

sorry, I should have clarified that this was a while back for me (12-13 years ago) , not a current injury.

LC’s is current, though.
