Long day decided to enjoy a mid-week pour.  I made up a blend of CEHT BP and ER, both BT #1 mashbill.  I had done the same with Stagg Jr. and BT which yielded spectacular results.   This blend doesn't seem to be at the level of that blend.  However, this "marriage" is young and needs time to consummate in the bottle before judging.

Welcome to SB.  Check out “New to StraightBourbon” for basic info on just hoe bourbon geeky we are.?  OGD 114 occupies a large portion of the dark corners of my basement.

Be sure to do lots of browsing with “Search”.

The Misses got her promotion verification yesterday, so today I'm celebrating with the best of TN whiskey. I should get into this more often.

After a long week of dodging furloughs at work, reduced hours earlier this week, and then overtime today, I’m ready for a damn drink!

SBS of Stagg JR tonight.

batch 5 vs. batch 8.

with only.2 proof points difference between them, I thought it would be closer, but 8 is the clear winner with its brown sugar profile.

Absolutely!  One of the best batches I've had.

Yeah, you don't hear much about batch 8 (batch 9 seems to get most of the attention) but it's a standout, IMO.  Brown sugar and butterscotch for days!

Some standard MM with several dashes of strawberry bitters and some dried strawberry floaties.  Yum

indeed.  Your descriptors are spot on.

Working on finishing this one tonight.

Wife (a bit tipsy) decided to start a smoldering mess in the back yard tonight with our wet wood.

Like a good Boy Scout, I brought my StaggJR and my fire skills ? .

Day.....saved!

I started the night killing off a baby Saz. Wasn’t really digging it after the first few sips, so I muddled some sugar and bitters in a separate glass and threw it in with some ice for a makeshift old fashioned which hit the spot. Then I finished with a tall pour of a 2011-barreled EW SiB, which is a really great and under rated pour IMO. Some bottles/barrels are better than others, as expected, but it’s generally consistent quality.  In fact, at the store I shop at most it is now my favorite bottle under $30 (only because they only sell WT101 in the 1L size, for just over $30).

Happy Friday!

Went back to the EC12 red for a second pour, this time a small pour.

Now for the next pour I'm keeping it in the family with HH6BiB

Enjoying 1792 FP PS, while catching up on today's news.

This 1792 is pretty tasty. Not really exotic, but good regular Bourbon. The mild heat not only balances out the sweetness, it also helps you remember , you are not drinking a Fru-Fru beverage.

Cheers

I bought this in 2012 and it was 9 yrs old, which was common back then.

Long day of yard work.  Opened an ECBP A120 for its initial pour.  Other than the first one in which I had difficulty finding the sweet spot, this is consistently a great bourbon and great value in the $50 to $60 range.  I will be looking to pick up another bottle.

In celebration of my birthday (a bit early; but who's watching, right?) I poured out the sample bottle of a special Jockey Club Pick of EWSB that I'd been saving for about 8-or 9-years.    I enjoyed it far more sniffing & drinking it than I ever had by just looking at it.   A lesson in there somewhere, I think.

Cheers to your bday, Rich!

Is this an OBSV 100 proof, or a cask strength?

I’m in the camp that thinks all the PHCs are pretty worthwhile. The curaçao one has grown on me over time. Randomly found a few on the shelf last year at MSRP so I don’t mind having a couple backups
