Passed on rhf at 349 today. A good price compared to finding blantons at 500 and blantons gold at 1000.

Insanity.

I hate to disparage folks, but anyone that purchases those bottles at those prices are just plain dumb asses.  A fool and his money are soon parted.

Cheers

Passed on a KC SiB 14 y.o. on Friday.  I'm sure it was good but I've got so many KC's right now I really couldn't justify another one.

But the net worth of the one at the very top is no measure of overall wealth of the population. Because of the destruction of wealth that's happening in the middle class (the death of a healthy middle class). Sure the super-uber-wealthy are richer, but that doesn't mean overall wealth in the population is higher. That's the problem.

While the middle class has been getting decimated, the tiers above have definitely seen an increase in their personal wealth.  Think back to 2009-2010, where a six figure salary was definitely out of reach for much of the population.  Nowadays, it’s a far more common achievement, with even college graduates in technical fields being offered those upon graduation.

Wealth is definitely more concentrated in the upper tiers nowadays.  But there are a lot of folks below the 1% annual income tier whose income growth has exceeded the rate of inflation for the past decade plus.  Call it the rising tide that has lifted a decent number of, but not every, boats.

The population of “taters” is far from exclusively made up of the uber-rich.  Estimates vary (by maybe ten grand or so), but to be in the top 10% of household incomes in the US, it requires a combined income of $180K+ as of a couple years ago.  That’s a lot of people who have the means to at least occasionally splurge on an overpriced bottle of booze or two.

My local TW had a sign on this (12 Foot Beard Cask Strength) that said local product. Curiosity grabbed me, so i grabbed the bottle to do some reading. My eyes immediately go to "distilled in Tennessee." Then I read the fun 2 paragraphs describing their brand. I give them credit for stating the actual distillation state, but I'm confused by the sentence that directly proceeds it.

Wow!  Talk about BS!  They source from Dickel, then claim to distill it, then say they always keep their word "no matter what"...

I saw a Van Winkle Special Reserve Lot B in the wild today, the first time in years.  At first glance I read $110 and thought not even double the state minimum price of $79.99.  Upon closer inspection I discover the price is $1100.  The I thought the last time I'd seen one in the wild it was $5 over the state price and I passed.  My how times have changed.

I just got preemptively passed by my local Total Wine on the next release of McKenna 10-yr.   I was told they will all go to lottery, and the lottery participants are selected based on how much they spent that year.  Sucks to be me.

Calumet Farms 14 year.  Intrigued by a 14 year bourbon distilled in Kentucky, but it's mystery juice and carried a price tag of more than $100.

Any Weller seems to be at least twice MSRP here in CA, if you can find it.  That's why I pass on it.  I hear it's falling off the shelves in Texas <shrug>.  We have Buffalo Trace falling off the shelves here, which I understand is hard to find in some places.

Only WSR is falling off the shelves in Texas these days.  OWA used to be sitting on the shelves for $26 just 4-5 years ago, but no more.  This OWA that I turned down was a "back room special" that I had to ask about.

That always seemed like a deceptive business practice to me.  I suggest you don't spend a lot of money there.  I've heard of people who played all the Mickey Mouse games - got passed over, offered nothing special.

Quick stop at the store before grabbing lunch to bring home for myself and the wife. I was looking for ER. There was a spot on the shelf for it, but alas there were none. So,  I passed on everything.

I found two bottles of ER today locally.  One was $45.99 and the other was $59.99 psycho.

Passed on a Blantons at $129.99 and a 1792 Bonded at over $50.

Also passed on a bottle of Weller special reserve.  One store had it at $69.99.  That screw cap Weller use to sell for $30 just a short time ago.  At $30 a bottle I hear that was a good pour at $70 that's just damn crazy.
